Baba showed us all those "roops" to reinforce that God is one ...it doesn't matter by what name we call Him. That is why Baba says"SAB KA MALIK EK".
So drop all your confusion and just love him the way YOU want to...as an old man with piercing eyes, Allah, Krishna, Hanuman, Nanakji.....any name or form that you are comfortable with.It is only your love that He wants...reinforced with absolute faith and patience...the two bits that He always asked as donation.
Why don't you read the Sacharita ? It will erase all confusion.
JAI SAI RAM!

A True Master does not belong to any religion. All religions are just different roads to God, all are valid to a True Mahatma. There is no difference to them. Love has no barriers and no limitations.
Many Great Souls have been able to manifest different dieties within themselves to devotees. Really all of these different forms/names are the same, just different expressions of the formless aspect of God. There's another Great Soul currently living right now in Kerala, India Mata Amritanandamayi, She has manifested Krishna, Kali, Shiva, and Devi. I'm a devotee of Her. The entire Hindu Pantheon exists within us. The Mahatma would express a particular diety to a particular devotee's strongest attraction to to help aid their spiritual growth.
Let's say if you were a Shikh and are a devotee of Guru Naanak and met Shiridi Sai Baba, then He would probably act and speak like Naanak to that Shikh devotee to further develop his faith and devotion.
I have read that Shiridi Sai Baba did both Hindu and Muslim practices. That is a very good example of showing us that there is really no separation in religion. Too many wars are being fought due to religious differences. People need to realize that there is Oneness in all religions, and that people just have different preferences to how they want to have devotion towards God, just like how we prefer different kinds of foods, etc.
Satya Sai Baba has made claims that he is the second of the three incarnations of Shiridi Sai Baba with Shiridi the first incarnation, Satya the second and the third one as Prema Sai Baba whom will be born after Satya dies. You can google for more information on that.
I have a friend whom is a devotee of Satya Sai Baba and has experienced his grace and miracles. One of the most common miracles that he has done for many devotees is manifesting vibhuti on his or other deity pictures on their altars. You can see pictures of these on the internet.

Shirdi Sai Baba was from India. Once in a Mosque in Shirdi a hermit took shelter, he sang songs, helped the poor, took care of the animals(hurt, hungry), and performed miracles.
Slowly, his fame started to spread all over the land. Sai baba strongly believed in uniformity of religion and he never distinguished anyone on the basis of caste, creed or religion. He always made it a point not to return empty handed those who had come to him in their hour of need and grief. He performed miracles to alleviate the suffering of poor people. On one occasion he restored the eyes of a blind elderly and in another occasion he lighted a lantern with water when there was no oil to burn it.
Eventhought he performed miracles. He believe in Unity of God and One religion.
He always said "Everyone's Master is One" Meaning "God is One". Hindu's saw him as a Ram or Krishna, as Hindus believed people with divine gifts are incarnations of God(Avatar),
Muslims said he is venerable, divine messenger from Allah. His beliefs was beyond religious sayings. He was not biased, he believed all religions are the same. :-)
TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: He does not belong to any religion or any cult. He is an incarnation from God(as he has divinely gifted).
Hope this helps. Let there be peace and unity among mankind. Wonderful question. Thank you.

Aradhana, Baba himself said Sabka Maalik ek, there were people who called Him dhongi, n hence, He showed Himself as whichever Deity they wanted to see Him as. He was Dattatreya's avatar. His life was His message. He wanted people to live by their own hard work, even when He was very ill, He used to work. You should certainly read Sri Sai Satcharitra, to get all your answers.
Jai Sai Rama!
edit: Sri Guru Charitra is a compilation of all avataras of Lord Dattatreya, u must read it.

Wikipedia notes:
"Sai Baba of Shirdi or Shirdi Sai Baba (circa 1838 - October 15, 1918), (real name, birth place, and date of birth unknown), was an Indian guru, yogi and fakir, who is regarded by his Hindu and Muslim followers as a saint. Some of his Hindu followers believe that he was an Avatar of Shiva, Dattatreya, a satguru and the next incarnation of Kabir."
"In his life and teachings he tried to embrace and reconcile both faiths: Sai Baba lived in a mosque, was buried in a Hindu temple, embraced Hindu and Muslim practices, and taught using words and figures that drew from both traditions. One of his well known epigrams says of God: "Allah Malik" ("God is King [Lord]"). "
More of his background and teachings can be found in the link below.
Fundamentally, though, the 2 faiths are irreconciliable. Therefore, in my opinion, his religion is doomed to failure: it either ostracises one group or the other, or compromises too much to be acceptable to both. Believers today follow mainly his moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, inner peace, devotion to God and guru.

His philosophy was Advaita Vedanta and his teachings had elements both of this school as well as of bhakti and Islam apparently.
Thank you for introducing him to me.

He mean to say that god is one and we are one and wanted us to relise god in us. But if you ask him what you wanted. He will sure show you. As i allways use to call him to my house, Finally one day, i felt he was there in my house. I could feel the vibrations of his presence. But i feel he is one god to me.
