This is a very complex situation. Thanks to everyone on here, yesterday I discovered I suffer from mild depression. But I'm not sure if it's involved in this new problem. Well, not so much new as it is coming to my awareness. I've been very stressed lately. I've always been stressed my whole life; it was just natural. But now it's out of cotnrol. I can't sleep, I've been overeating and gained a few pounds, and I find myself sinking lower into my depression with the weight of the world on my shoulders. I'm not too busy, or anything. I just want to do something productive with my summer (like outdoor hiking or running, but I can't with my asthma) and I can't seem to find the right circumstances to do it. There's always something wrong in my life. I want to relax, but I feel if I take a day off then I'm letting everyone down and that if I don't ride my horse one day, or if I try to take a nap or take some general time off, then I just have that much more work to do. Help! I'm on overload!

Oh yeah; I'm fourteen. FOURTEEN! This is NOT normal for a fourteen-year-old! I mean, my thirteen year old sister is normal and has the same pressures as I do, but somehow mine are worse.

You need to get sleep. I think that is the biggest problem. When you don't get enough sleep you're going to be more susceptible to stress. See your doctor about this.

look into getting a massage. find a licensed massage therapist in your area. talk to your parents about it, you'll need their permission since you're 14. the healing power of touch has a great impact on relieving stress, tension, and depression, all while helping to improve your body awareness, and overall self awareness. all of these things can have an impact on how you sleep, exercise, and generally feel about yourself.
also, finding a way to quiet your mind down for small periods of time, frequently throughout the day (like meditation or prayer) will help to alleviate stress, and make you feel more productive when you're taking on the work of the day. find some books on something that interests you along those lines at the library. good luck, and when you start to feel out of balance, return to your breath. as long as you're breathing, you're ok.

Hi, Do not beat yourself up that your sister can deal with things differently to you. we are all built differently and deal with stress differently.

You seriously need to find some YOU time that is just as it says time for you. You should make this time EVERY single day to begin with until it becomes normal. Stress can be very debilitating when you have no time away from it as many people will say to you. Plan something that you would like to do even if it is as simple as having a long candle lit bath with your fave book. Anything as long as it makes you feel good about you. Many of us start out our teenage years with depression of varying degrees and struggle with it forever more. Teach yourself to love you for who you are, make sure you are good to yourself drink enough water and eat the right foods to keep your body fighting fit. Depression can be hard to shake off at any age and your hormones will be making it all the harder for you especially.

Don't lose sight of what you want in life and make sure you give yourself the time to heal. We all overeat when we are depressed at some point and weight will come off in the same way it goes on.

Love you for exactly who you is

Good luck sweetness from someone who really knows and understands where you are coming from

Well, you need to discuss with your parents since you cannot seek advice and take any treatment based on advice here.

If you were elder ( a major), I would have advised you differently, but with you, I am afraid I can't.

Have you considered that the hormonal changes which are going through your body may be causing you the stress? You may be becoming a woman, you know?

Best discuss with your mom.

I recommend that you talk to someone about things.
Whether it be your parents, your school counselor or a counseling psychologist.

You shouldn't worry so much about letting people down when you feel like you need to relax. You're far too young to have to worry about that or to have a high stress load. If you tell the people who you feel you'd be letting down that you need some time to yourself to recoup, they'd be understanding.

Have you told this to your parents? Talk to them or an adult you trust. See a counselor or psychologist, they really can make you feel better :)
