This is actually a realistic secnario. Much of the oil that is imported worldwide travels through the Strait of Hormuz. If the Strait of Hormuz were blocked the world oil supplies would be cut back drastically.
Short term, the prices of the remaining fuel supplies would skyrocket.
The high prices however would spur development of other fossil fuel supplies such as oil shale in the Rocky Mountains and the Canadian Tar sands.
This would also spur development of wind power for the generation of electricity and would spur the greater usage of coal to generate electricity.
We would see many existing automobiles converted to run on electricity.
The automotive manufacturers would immediately start producing electric cars.
We would also see many automobiles converted to alternative energy sources.
For example it is relatively easy to convert an existing automobile to run on natural gas. Natural gas supplies are plentiful in the United States.
Short term it would be very painful.
In the long term it would be very beneficial because it would break the world wide dependence on oil imported from the middle east.
It would shut off the money supply that funds most terrorism that we see in the world today.

If by supplies, you mean the places we (the US) get our oil from so we don't have to dirty our own land..Well, lets just say there would be a few new rigs off the coast of Flordia and drills in the anwr by morning.
Now, if you are refering to the world wide well suddenly drying up and going away..Well, people would freak out-at first, then eventually adjust. We'd bring back the horse and tell the animal rights groups to stick it.
Oh, and to the person(s) that think that the majority of Americas Oil comes from the middle east, think again. Canada and Mexico. Europe relies on the middle east more so than anyone else.

It would hurt the economy for a few days in America. But I've seen people on the news who were able to turn grease into fuel for motor vechiles I imagine that these people would be utilitzed right away by the U.S. govt or by corporations such as Ford etc. besides we also have billions of gallons of oil in reserve. And not only that there is alot of oil right here in the United States. I believe we are being mislead to believe there isn't oil almost everywhere not just a little oil but alot.

It's a world crisis. You can't predict what will take event anytime. Think about this, war will occur on who will take over the power from the hands administrating and dominating oil and energy supplies. As a result, it will cost vast amount of lives. It's something the beginning of the era of destruction. One of the prophecy seems to become true. Apocalypse, the end of the world and human race.

It would be a disaster, I work in the canadian oil fields and agree that new and sustainable resources have to be developed and soon. You drive around the oil fields and look and how much land used to be used for oil and now is abandon to due it being pumped out. To answer your question, it would be an economic disaster, so much of the economy resides around fossil fuels that doesnt even have to due with putting gas in our cars. The entire economy would be in ruins, almost every business in the entire country relies on fossil fuels, no fuel for farmers, no tractors or combines, no food for us, nothing would run. AAhh, scary

We would probably start working together like we should be doing now and coming up with alternative energy's especially in the states. People in the states are a funny bunch when times are good we are for our self but when the the going gets hard we somehow all manage to all pull together and get what we need that's why i love my American brothers one for all and all for one. Then when its all over and dun with we go back to being snobs . Only in America what a wonderful place

We would wish we had listened to the stories our grandparents told us about how they grew up with out electricity. Antique stores would do a booming business. We forget that the world did survive without depending on oil like we do today and was probably better off.

Cannot happen. A slight stoppage would cause an economic recession. A major long term stoppage would cause an economic and social collapse in the industrialized portions of the planet. Your scenario would start a new dark ages.
