yes it matters, but you can also use a filler flash, sometimes you cannot accurately re-touch flesh tones in photoshop.

if you don't let the sun hit there face you have to use a flash or reflector to fill the shade cause by the sun. Flash is good to fill in the shadow areas. Then use photo shop to get the perfect picture. This is called fill flash. Expose the picture o the back ground and let the flash go. And you will be surprise how well it works.
OK hope this helps. Don't forget you can put the sun in there face.

Yes it does. The sun can cast shadows on your subject faces. If their backs are facing the sun and no sun on their faces, their faces will be much darker than the rest of the picture. Photo shop can help but it will be much better if you used a flash fill technique. Bascially, thats a flash used in normal sun light to take shadows off your subject. You need to get the right amount of flash. Digital cameras will allow you to see the results immediately so you can get the hang of it. Also, read your owners manual in regards to manual over ride of your flash.
Good luck

It's better for the sun to be behind the photographer, rather than the photographer shooting directly into the sun.
