Get your child to eat plenty of protien. That seems to be the hardest thing for people to recognize in a vegetarian diet. And kids that age need plenty.

my son has been a vegetarian since he was 8, three years ago. His diet is very limited but, I don't think he's unhealthy in any way. He eats lots of the frozen fake meat products put out by Boca and some other company that has mostly green labels. They make a few dozen products that are all virtually the same thing but taste slightly different. Lots of pasta. My son doesn't even like potatoes or pasta particularly but he eats a little of it. He survives primarily on grilled cheese, fake meat products, eggs and fruit. And of course breads and junk food. I'm not big on cooking so I don't have recipe ideas. Oh - he eats eggplant parmigiana

She MUST have meat, and not just 'fake meat' or protein replacements. There's nothing wrong with a meatless meal once in a while, but for proper growth, she needs proper food and nutrition for her wellbeing. Vegetarianism can come once she's 18.

wow, moral reasons or she just doesn't liek meat? Not that that matters, I just find it really interesting.
Make sure she gets daily vitamins, have her eat peanuts and soy nuts to keep up her protein (very important at this age). There are some kiddie websites that you can get recipes off of but most vegitarian dishes don't appeal to kids so test the waters a little bit to see what she likes. Soups are a good bet too.

There is no need for a vegetarian diet to be limited. Most stores nowadays stock vegetarian items from burgers, to hot dogs, to cheeses and egg substances for Vegans. Learn your veggies, google vegetables that are high in protien, ones that are high in calcium and vitamins A and D. If you want vegtarian recipies all you have to do is google them

My family are not vegetarians, but my in-laws are so when we visit them they give my children "Boca burgers" and "Leenies." Leenies are vegetarian version of hot dogs and my children like them. Hey, they fooled my children so have to taste pretty good. They also like "8th continent" soy milk. Hope this helps-God Bless!

allrecipes.com has a lot, but I would pick up a bunch of morningstar farms items, do a lot of pastas and stir frys, eggplant parm, manacotti, cheese or spinach ravioli, etc.

Vegetarian Spaghetti

INGREDIENTS
1 (16 ounce) package spaghetti
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 (26 ounce) jar meatless spaghetti sauce
1 (16 ounce) can garbanzo beans or chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes with garlic and onion, undrained
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 bay leaf
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS
Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, saute the onion, celery and garlic powder in oil until tender. Add the spaghetti sauce, beans, tomatoes, sugar, salt, oregano and bay leaf.
Bring to a boil; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Discard bay leaf. Drain spaghetti; top with sauce and Parmesan cheese.

Vegetarian Baked Pasta

INGREDIENTS
1 pound penne pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
8 ounces portobello mushrooms, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
8 ounces Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled

DIRECTIONS
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain. Pour a glass of ice water over the pasta to stop the cooking, but do not rinse thoroughly.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Coat a 9 x 13 glass pan with olive oil. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in large skillet. Add mushrooms. Cook for 2 minutes then add basil, oregano and garlic and cook 1 minute more. Add sauce to mushroom mixture and stir.
To assemble, pour enough sauce in the bottom of the pan to cover. Combine the remaining sauce and the pasta. Place one-third of sauced noodles on top of sauce in pan. Top with 1 cup of mozzarella and one-half of the gorgonzola. Repeat for a second layer. Put the final third of the noodles in the pan and top with the final 2 cups of mozzarella.
Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, or until cheese is browned. Serve

these dishes are really good.
