You should try out a number of churches until you find the one at which you will be most comfortable.
I was raised in Lutheran Missouri Synod, but during college I started going to a variety of churches, baptist, methodist, evangelical free, etc until I found a home at an Evangelical Lutheran church.

I am a Baptist and I love my church. However, you need to visit a few churches to find the one right for you. Not only are you looking for a church that is protestant, but you need to find out what the congregation is like and if you like the style of worship in that particular church. All baptist churches are unique and there is a wide variety of styles and personalities of church. If you find that the baptist church is not rght for you, then look at Calvary Chapel or Bretheren or a non denominational church. Be sure that they preach the Bible and don't water it down. Be sure the things they preach jive with what you believe. Once you join, get involved and get to know people. Hope this helps.

Colette B stated it wrong. She wrote that Baptists believe in the Bible only. The Baptists believe in what they THINK the Bible says, which I will tell you from experience is mostly wrong. There can be only one whole truth, only ONE church that contains the true teachings of the Apostles.
There are at least 40,000 different Protestant denominations out there, not counting the so-called "non-denominational" sects out there (if you count all of their belief systems in the mix that number could easily swell to nearly a half million). All these churches differ on simple matters of faith and doctrine. Simple logic tells us that contradictory statements cannot be true at the same time. So, which one of these churches contains the truth. I will tell you sincerely that with an open mind (I mean a truly, purely open mind - remove the "Protestant glasses" and wash away those false pre-concieved notions and biases), careful study (the writings of the early Church Fathers, the medievals and then the Bible in light of what you have learned) -- God will INEVITABLY lead you to His one, true Church - which is the Holy Catholic Church.

If your United Church was like most United Churches, you would probably be more comfortable with the Methodists. You might find the Baptists a little more 'conservative' than what you are used to. Otherwise, the essential beliefs will probably be very similar.

It would be perfectly fine to attend a Baptist church. They lost their church here and the Methodist also and now they are all coming to the Baptist because it is so similar and they are happy with it.

Baptists are protestants. They believe in the Bible only and nothing else. So, if you believe in the Bible and believe that it is the truth, that is the right church for you.
God Bless!!!

I would try a variety of churches there and speak personally to the pastors to see if their beliefs line up with what you have been taught.
I wouldn't narrow it down to a denomination, more of a church that holds your values and has members that actually know God.

Frankly, they are all Jr.Catholics.Remnant Believers of these Last Days gather in homes or a building that is not festooned with garish artwork and stained glass. And they do not have memberships, boards of directors, deacons, leaders, and do not force tithing.Sola Scriptura is the only way for a Christian.
