Noone ever goes to war thinking they are in the wrong. The most dangerous person is someone who believes in their cause 100% with no doubt whatsoever; it can justify almost any means.

Because "god" is what the wars are all about...most of the wars in history are fought over religion, including our current mess.
Each side thinks "their god" is the only one and everyone must live accordingly.
If there really was a god - Christian, Hebrew, Muslim - whatever, that god would be PI**ED for sure.

Most holy wars are between nations with different belief systems, so both have different Gods on their side.

primitive human nature, generally all individuals, groups, nations, etc. wish to believe they are a good and just people. This coupled with what ever mythology the majority might dedicate itself to demands that since their god is good and just, and they are good and just, then by all means, their actions must be ordained by their god or gods themselves. This holds especially true for Judaism and its two reforms, Christianity and Islam.
