You can play the ps3 on your computer monitor, but you'll need special hookup cables, you can play your ps3 on your TV offline and online with the cables included.

The playstation 3 has wireless internet (wifi) and an ethernet port, so you can either have a wireless or wired connection. You will need a highspeed (dsl or preferably broadband) connection, you don't nessecarily need a computer, but you need a router. The manual for the ps3 can tell you how to set up a wireless connection.

If you want to have a wired internet connection, you hook one side of the ethernet cable to your ps3, and the other side to your router. (the ps3 comes with an ethernet cable, though you might need a longer one)

You should get a router (I use wired D-link 601). Than let the PS 3 find everything automatically. Or you can buy wi-fi router, if you don't want to mess around with cables. That's in case you've got 60 Gb version, coz 20 Gb doesn't have wi-fi.
