I love, love, love chickens! I used too raise purebred bantie chickens. (They are miniature chickens.) When I bought my acre for only $35,000.00 during 2001, I had to give up my chickens, ducks and geese because my land is located in the watershed protection zone! I miss them soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! But, I did make a wise decision because now I can sell it for WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more and I plan to sell it so I can buy some land where I can have chickens again. They are soooooooooooooooooo much fun! At one time I had 23 roosters. One person bought them all just before I had to move. It was so quiet the next morning! I miss them soooooooooooooooo much! They really gave me a reason to get out of bed in the morning! Be thankful you live where you can have them! Just make certain to secure them every night so they don't get killed by a raccoon, fox or other predator! I also had call ducks (miniature ducks that can fly), quail, pigeons, parakeets, cockatiels, finches and a whole bunch more that I won't go into. Try getting some banties! They are a real crackup and will fly up into the trees! Their eggs are much smaller. But, so are their poops!

When I was a kid we had chickens and I loved them. A couple years, our father would even let us go through some catalog and pick out our own bread and would get us a rooster and a few hens each. If I ever live somewhere where I can own a few again, I will.
Boy did we have one mean rooster though! We were always running from him :). Good times!

I would be lying if I said I didn't love my chickens. Right now I have 50 of these spoiled little children. My sweetest ones are my 5 black austrops(Kendra, Cocoa, Flora, Sicaly, and Gracie), 2 brahmas(Amber and Amy), and my white orphington (Eveta). Every time I walk by my chickens are right behind me. I used to think that they just wanted a snack but now I understand what they really want. Attention. My birds love to be held. So when it comes to loving chickens you are not alone.

I do!!! I have 4 hens & 1 Rooster(Big-Red yes I have named them all. we live in a rural community along the Ruby Mnts. and we got chickens about 5 yrs ago when we were invaded by the "Morman Crickets" they were everywhere, something out of a horror movie(no kidding) crawling up the walls of the P.O. and Groc. store. and within a Wk-10 days we had no more of the gross looking crickets....... and they also eat most bugs from my yard.(except ants... they are a hoot to watch their personalities... oh watch out for cat-food they love it. :) we feed our 2 cats once they are back in their coop. which they go in all on their own.... they do like to sunbath in fluff-dirt and they can get into your garden or flower beds but we just put down wire.
we enjoy them allot. and R easy to care for.& we love the fresh eggs

well who doesn't like chickens? I just love the animal and the word! Chickens are great. Though I haven't had one as a pet, but I've seen them in coops and zoos. I think all chickens should roam free. Where ever they want. Chickens are tasty but I hardly ever eat them. I mean, what did chickens ever do to humans? They would never try to eat you. Anyway, as you can see, I truly love chickens. THEY ROCK!!!!

I don't much care for them as pets, but if I lived in the country I'd like to have some for the eggs. I would treat them very kindly, but not as pets.

me... i'm actually a pet lover... i do breed dogs (have 4 breeds now-siberian husky, pitbulls,, rottweilers, and golden rets), i do also have fishes... most of them are cichlids... oscars, fh, african.., have birds... pigeons, african love birds and hopefully a cockatoo. well, i do really have chickens before but now they were sent to our province. i really do appreciate their natural gifts "instincts" on how they differ from other animals...
well... continue loving pets... but keep in mind... also think of our environment...=)
enjoy and good luck
