Fasting... that's what Muslims do during Ramadan. They don't eat from dawn until dusk. I think they can drink water. Fasting is not eating for a certain period of time. You can lose an immense amount of weight if you fast long enough. But if you eat again, all that weight will come back. I wouldn't recommend fasting. It seems dangerous.

Fasting is not a dieting practice. It is a cleansing practice that should only be done once a week at the most. You drink only water for a whole day. It is supposed to clean out your system of the toxins. You can lose weight doing this, but that is not a good way to lose weight. Calorie control, proper diet, and a good exercise routine are far more effective than fasting.

Fasting is done for religious purposes.
When you fast you don't exactly lose weight, it's more of a detoxification.
Drinking alot of water is great, as long as you have 5 small healthy, balanced meals with that each day.
When you detox through a water fast, you basically use the bathroom alot more to flush out your toxins.
There is no weight gone but your water weight, which you only retain from your fast.

There are different types of fasts, and a water fast is the one you've described. It is not a healthy thing to do and it is pretty much guaranteed that any weight lost will come back on just as quickly. I would never recommend putting your body through that, just eat right, stay active, and the pounds will come off (and stay off for good).

yeah thats what it is but you cant lose weight by doing it. because once you lose the weight, youre obviously going to stop fasting. by now, your metabolism is extremely slow and you're going to start eating again and putting on weight so quickly.
