There must be a good reason your doctor gave you Zoloft, depression, anxiety or something. If this disorder is really getting you down, whatever side effects you may experience will be outweighed by the benefits. I have taken Zoloft before. For the first few days, I felt a little drowsy and fuzzy-headed, but those side effects disappeared. After a while the only real side effect was weight gain, which you should watch out for. Go ahead, give it a try. Most of the side effects never occur. I mean, if you ever read the side effects of the pill, no one would take birth control for fear of dying of an immediate stroke. If you have bad side effects, tell you doctor and stop taking it. If it were really, really dangerous, no one would prescribe/take it. Hopefully you are getting another type of treatment along with the drug so you won't have to stay on it for a very long time. I was able to stop taking Zoloft after a year because I learned how to deal with my anxiety properly. Go ahead and take it. Hopefully it's a low dose (50 mg or less). You'll be fine, maybe just feel a little weird for a couple days. In the long run, hopefully you won't even notice anything other than your feeling better.

Zoloft is one of the better SSRI antidepressants. If it gives you bad side effects then you can try something else. Tell your doctor how you feel about taking your medication and if you have any changes. If you feel side effects or feel worse call your doctor inbetween apointments.

Check out http://www.dbsalliance.org for support groups and http://www.nami.org for message boards and info about mediction.

I hope you find your way soon. You may or may not experience side effects from any given medication. You might find that you feel a whole lot better on medication.

you have to take it to see if it helps, they only prescribe meds like that if they think that it can help you. you should try it and then in 2 or 3 weeks you should start feeling better, if you have the side effects that you don't like, then talk to your doctor about it, there's other meds that he can prescribe, like prozac and celexa. if zoloft doesnt make you feel better then you would have to try one of the new medicines anyway, sometimes it works for people sometimes it doesn't. i was on celexa, and it didn't help, i don't know if it made me get worse or i just got worse and it had no effect, but either way it didn't work, i was on it for like, 40 days. then they decided to give me a epilepsy/ bipolar medicine, i don't remember the name of it, but i think its helping. they did diagnose me with major depressive disorder, but then decided that i have bipolar, its possible for that kindof thing too. i also have adhd so that kinda made diagnosing me harder. but just take the zoloft as directed and give it three weeks atleast, to see if it makes you feel better, unless you do have side effects that you cant stand, or you feel more depressed, if either of those things happen, talk to your doctor right away.
good luck, i hope you feel better and all goes well for you

my doctor gave me Zoloft but she said it would take 2-3 weeks to really get into my system and start working. I took it for a while but it made sleep more and more. I never lay around and sleep, but it was all I could do. I had no energy. It made me feel worse. Now I take Prozac and it's so much better. Try it for a while and see if it works.

being scared and nervous is why he gave it to you in the first place probably. Take it as prescribed. It may take a few weeks for you to really feel the effects of it.but will probably feel better in the long run. My husbsnd takes it and the only side effect has been dry mouth for the first while

Why not take it? I've never had patients complain about side effects with Zoloft. If you do develop side effects, ask your doctor to prescribe a different anti-depressant than Zoloft.

Either take it or stay depressed. Its up to you. Also, make sure you get the generic Sertraline. Zoloft is expensive.

Well, don't know if you've taken antidepressants before, but nausea, headaches, a bit of anxiety, sleeplessness are common AT FIRST- will probably subside after a couple, but it they continue, there are newer antidepressants. Zoloft wasn't for me (I was good with lexapro, least side effect with wellbutrin but didn't help the depression).

Lower sex drive in women is extremely common- see what your tolerance to that is versus your psych. symptoms.

You won't know until you try it. Any medication is bound to have side effects, but, if your doctor gave it to you for the same reason that I used it, the benefits far outweigh the side effects. Peace to you. :)

Zoloft is used to treat depression, panic attacks, OCD, stress disorder and social anxiety. From reading I think you owe it to yourself to at least try it. I think you may benefit from it you seem to have a lot of anxiety.
You will not know if you do not try it.
