I just found a prescription that I was given in Feb. 2006 for Epipen that I never got filled - I had forgotten about it until I was just cleaning my desk drawer. Can I still get it filled or do I have to ask my doctor for another? Just wondering if the pharmacy will care about the date on it. Obviously it's not urgent but I should have an Epipen with me - I'm allergic to bees and now that it's summer I want to get it filled.

I'm not talking about a prescription that I already got filled, it's the actual prescription that my doctor gave me - the piece of paper - I haven't taken it to the pharmacy to get filled.

Usually the prescription is good for 6 month after the date of prescription. Some pharmacies really dont look on the date so you might be able to fill it without a problem. If not then get the pharmacist to call your doctor and i am sure he will renew it over the phone and you will save a trip

Yes, they do expire after a couple of years. We get Codene for our family once a year, and we forgot to refill the prescription, and we had an old bottle of Codene that wasn't strong enough to help, so yes, they do expire.
So, if you need a regular prescription that you won't be using all the time, but still need it, I would update it, because it really won't work because it's too old.

The best thing to do is to call your pharmacy and ask them. Most of my perscriptions expire 1 year after they are first filled, since you haven't had it filled then it might still be valid. But my guess is since it is over a year old they would double check with your doc.

Yes, they do expire. You should ask your doctor for another because most pharmacies are very picky about that these days.

If you are talking about bottled water, the water itself doesn't expire, but the bottle may start leaking chemicals into the water, thus the expiration date

A WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION HAS A 1 YEAR WITHIN WHICH IT SHOULD BE FILLED. OTHERWISE, THE PHARMACIST WILL TELL YOU TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR AGAIN.
SINCE IT'S JULY OF 2007, AND THE ORIGINAL WAS WRITTEN BACK IN FEB.OF 2006, YOU WILL NEED A NEW ONE.
TO SAVE TIME AND $ JUST HAVE THE DOCTOR CALL ONE IN FOR YOU TO THE PHARMACY. GOOD LUCK.
