I have a problem with strumming... When i hold the pick the proper way (the pick between thumb and curled index), and strum up, the pick hits the high E string much harder than it hits the other strings, causing the chord to sound horrible. I have tried using less force but it doesnt seem to work. Any suggestions?

get a thinner pick. but try using a hard one every now and again, because as you get better you find that the small thick picks are much better.. learn how to finger-pick but make sure you are good at using a pick as it will become very valuable later.

and the way to fix your strumming problem is practice

HI,
Try using a different pick there are different ones to
choose from, heavy, light, medium, medium light, thin.
Are you sure that you are strumming correctly?
I like using the light pick, it flows nice and easy along
the strings, but I also use my right index, middle, ring and
pinky finger alternately as a different method when playing
Nylon String Guitar, which I prefer and mostly play.

I've played classical guitar for over thirty five years, and have always used my fingers, I even play songs like Tears in Heaven finger style. Every once in a while I try the pick but it's just not in me to use one, maybe that's the case with you, why not try finger style guitar, I think it's way easier.

Try using a softer pick. They come in different thicknesses. I prefer a soft pick myself.

P.S. - If you loosen your grip, you're just going to drop it (and when it falls in the hole, its really irritating)

either hold it at the top or the pick or getting a floppier pick :) or maybe its your E string but i doubt that, good luck

Try loosening your grip on the pick, let it "flex" a little.
