well it requires an emergency treatment as the nerve is exposed and should dressed temporarily with a temporary dressing and antibiotic as there are chances of abscess and if theres already an infection or swelling get it drained as soon as possible . in addition to antibiotic , pain killer, 0.1% hexediene mouth rinses alternate to salt water rinses would aid in inhibiting infection

precautions to be taken- avoid eating, brushing from that side temporarily untill it gets a permanent treatment.
avoid taking too hot and spicy food from the affected side

Go to the drug store and buy temporary filling material, in your toothpaste aisle. Stops the air from getting to it, causing the pain, then go see a dentist! Good luck, I know how much it hurts!

you have to get antibiotics,...an infection has begun to create an abscess it sounds or so...Vicodin should harness some of the pain for the interim..sorry to hear because my upper left all in the back has been shattered for years and i have to hit with antibiotics cause it does what you described...sorry to hear..

ok this is a extreme approach i used.....I used very, very cold ice water and swished it on the tooth-this is very painful and will shortcircuit the nerve.Repeat this three or four times and it will go away for awhile. Also, good 100+ proof ice cold whiskey, used in the same manner, and then swallowed is guaranteed to work!
