I have pondered this myself. If Adam and Eve did not know right from wrong prior to eating the apple, they were functionally retarded in a sense. Simply telling someone who has no ability to know right from wrong "no" is not likely to yield good results. Leaving a dangerous object like the tree in a place accessible to people who not only have no knowledge of right and wrong, but no experience with anything would be considered downright negligent to say the least by any parent, let alone one who is supposed to be all-knowing. I would not take my child, even an adult child, leave a loaded gun in the living room and simply say don't touch because i said so. That is flawed parenting on any level.

It's reckoned that the Garden of Eden was the size of Wales. When God told them not to eat from one tree he was not depriving them but providing a way for them to worship and obey God. Adam and Eve were also perfect so they should have known better.
You are comparing Adam and Eve, perfect adults, to imperfect children , so it is not a fair comparison. Adam and Eve knew the what the consequenses would be before they ate the fruit.

Wrong! every child knows it's bad to disobey Daddy even if it's just the mentallity "because daddy said so". The temptation to go outside the rules is what you speak of. They know it's wrong and that make doing it a temptation, that they don't think about the consequences well that is being a kid.
God gave Adam and Eve TONS of other things to eat and said this is the only thing you must not eat from ( and gave them a reason) for if you do you will die.
They knew it was wrong which was why they hid (and placed the blame on each other as well as the Snake)
See Genesis (subtitle The Fall of Man)

Adam and Eve had the whole Garden of Eden to enjoy and had all the food etc. God told them that they could have all but the fruit from the tree of knowledge, Eve was tempted by the devil and ate from the tree, then gave some of what she ate to Adam. Adam and Eve had brains to think for themselves, but disobeyed God. they weren't satisfied with what all God let them have! And our world has been greedy ever since.

Remember this story is demonstrating a concept of human psychology and its working rather than just a fairy tale.
The hidden meaning is they learned the act of defiance! Defiance is the source of all evils, lies defies fact, murder defies right to live etc... Since it is the source of our psychological workings we are now in the sorry state of today. Science defies nature so the air, sea, food etc... is all polluted etc... Look at it deeper and take time with it.

You're really caught up on the whole Adam and Eve thing aren't you.
Did you have to kill someone to understand it's wrong?
Adam knew it was wrong, and he was tempted by a mere human. He chose to disobey God and blame instead of repent and he received the consequences for his actions.

Why would God have told them not to eat from the tree unless it was wrong and they understood that it was wrong? God told them the consequences, they went ahead and did it anyway.

I agree. The whole story (I emphasise story) is a load of rubbish as far as I'm concerned. It didn't happen. In the days before tv they had to think of something to do and they couldn't keep making up new stories, so they stuck to the same one. After a while, people believed it happened.

Where does it say in the bible that they were on a diet? They didn't choose to do wrong of their own accord. They were tempted by someone they thought was clever enough to know what they were talking about. I really do suggest, you get yourself a copy of the bible and read what it really says instead of speculating. Jesus loves you!
