Swimmer's ear can be very painful and most medical textbooks give inadequate attention to it. If you have a lot of wax in your ear, it will retain moisture. Irrigating the canal to flush out the wax usually helps. Sometimes, inserting an ear wick is beneficial. If your doctor cannot do this, ask for a referral to an ENT. Also, a few tablets of an analgesic should help.

For prevention: After swimming, blot out the water with a corner of a tissue inserted in the ear canal. (Please get out of wet clothing before proceeding to the next step.) Put a hair dryer close enough to your ear to feel the warmth and continue drying out the ear. Keep the ear canal free of wax.

I get that all the time. keep taking the medication the dr. gave to you and take advil for the pain. Try using vinegar in the ear. Lay on your side and put a few drops in and continue to lay there for at least 10 minutes. Remember, do NOT let the dropper touch the ear then reuse it as it will only reintroduce the infection!

I don't know the name for it but I think swimmers ear is when you get water stuck in your ear right? That's happened to me before. I get it out by turning your head so the ear with water in it is toward the ground, then kind of shake your head a little like you see in cartoons. It sounds silly but it works for me! Also try cleaning out your ear with a damp Q-tip, but don't shove it to far in your ear because that might cause damage.

Sounds like you need and antibiotic for an ear infection.

A hot water bottle might make it feel better or a heating pad.

Hope you feel better real soon.

A few drops of rubbing alcohol dropped in your ear should dry this up after showers, and swimming. Call your Health Food Store, and ask them. They are great with advice.
