I was pulled over for having a tail light out. I couldn't find my proof of insurance at the time either. The officer did not have his citation book with him and said the citation would be mailed to me. Would this ticket be valid??

sorry, but yes...you could always go to court over it and hope he doesn't show....if he doesn't show then it gets thrown out

Yes. The citation would still be valid.

In Illinois (and most states), officer's can give a citation up to a year after the offense. Generally, however, they are given on scene or at the conclusion of an investigation.

Hope this helps.

If you recieve a citation in the mail, it is real, and valid. You could challeneg it, but ou will not be likely to win. This is similar to those traffic cameras that take pictures of red light runners or speeders and send a citation. It is valid regardless of the condition that the officer did not have a citation book with him. He may have been off duty or something at the time.

Yes, sorry. Nothing says the citation has to be issued at the scene. The statute of limitations for violations and misdemeanors is one year from date of offense. Dosn't speak highly of the officer, but the citation is still good.

Unless specifically stated by law that it isn't most likely it is valid. Think of the cameras catchiing people running red lights and receiving citations by mail that way.

Call the court and see if you can show proof of insurance and proof that your tail light has been repaired then you may be able to get it dropped. Otherwise, they could take your driver license if you don't have insurance.

The officer more than likely wrote down your license number and that is all he needs.
