It is just demonic spells put on others with the use of dolls, etc...

As a Christian, if someone cursed me, I would just return the curse dipped in Gods love. And the blessing overcomes the curse.

for starters, throw out any Hollywood notions of what you think vodun or voodoo as you know it is. voodoo is merely a variation of the religion the Yoruba people brought with them to the new world. It is combined with many elements of Catholicism. This was a result of the slaves being forbidden to practice their religion. Voodoo is not much different than any other religion. It has it's deities and rituals. It has it's positive side and it's negative side. dark elements of voodoo are no more scarier than such concepts as demonic possession and Satan within Christianity. even highly publicized practices like animal sacrifice are not nearly as dark as you would think. we consume tons of meat ever year, we just don't personally kill it first. a voodoo practitioner sacrificing an animal pretty much amounts to a person offering an animal to go, blessing it and then eating it. animal sacrifice was common to many religions, including Judaism which produced Christianity. whether it works is pretty much , like any other religion, a matter of debate. the believer would say yes and the non-believer no.

Vodou/Voodoo/Vodun is an African Traditional Religion (ATR) which when practiced well promotes spiritual growth. With its roots in Africa, the spiritual traditions of the Africans merged with Native American and, for the most part, Catholic traditions to develop into various traditions of the African Diaspora such as Vodou/Voodoo, Santeria, Candomble, Palo, etc. All of these traditions have at their root the honoring of the ancestors and the recognition of the supreme power of God (Bondje or Olodumare).

The image of Vodou/Voodoo as it is presented in the media, particularly in Western European and US media, is based on a combination of fear of the unknown, racism, political/social maneuvering and misunderstanding. Historically, African spirituality has been maligned, in part, to justify the chattel slave system and most recently to continue to promote social separation and injustice through the continuation of the myth of the evil/licentious/dangerous black people.

If you truly have an interest in the African Traditional Religions, I recommend spending more time doing concrete research on the history of Africa and its cultures (note the plural), the African Diaspora and its cultures (again, note the plural) and the socio-political conditions under which the cultures managed against all odds to maintain their connection with the root in Africa. A serious study of Africa and its people will lead to a greater understanding of the nature of its spirituality and why great strength can be derived from it.

Please find below a few books and web sites that might be of interest to you.

Be well,

VooDoo is like any spells, evil eye, curses, etc. it's just simply superstitious nonsense. But, it does work if the one on the receiving end believes that it's possible. A voodoo spell is the opposite of faith healing.
If you can convince a person that you can put a spell on him, if he really believes that it's possible, then he's in your power.
The "preacher" can make you feel better for a short time, if you really believe that he can cure you.
The medium can have you talking to dead relatives, if you really believe that it's possible.
It's called the power of suggestion.

I would suggest staying away from that!

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Revelation 21:8

Repent (turn from your sins), accept Jesus as Lord of your life, and follow Him daily. Then your sins will be forgiven and He will totally change your life here on earth and give you eternal life!
