Honestly, you are too young to be dating. Boys at that age are very immature, heck, they are still chasing girls on the playground. Besides that, the old days that you talk of are really only like 8-9 years ago. I am 18 and in 1999 I was in the 5th grade and no one had boyfriend/ girlfriend relations.

Sweetie, you ARE too young. I don't give a crap about "the old days," rules still apply here. A 5th grader needs to be concentrating on school, not boys. This "everyone in 5th grade should have a boyfriend" is pure crap.
I'm wondering where your parents are while you're online typing this crap.

You wait until 11th grade (16 yrs old) because kids aren't any more mature now than they were in the 'old days'...less so actually. They are exposed to more but don't understand it or the repercussions. Ten year olds are less capable of dealing with dating/relationships than kids were in my grandparents generation when marrying at 14 or 15 or 16 and starting a family wasn't uncommon.
Be a kid as long as you can sweetie. I know it's not what you want to hear right now, but when you're an adult and look back on your childhood you'll wish you'd spent more time with dolls and toys...once you become an adult, you're an adult for the rest of your life.

I'm sorry to tell you I'm somewhat from the old days and usually most guys hated girls in the 5th grade. Most guys would not even look at girls until the 7th or 8th grade.
You are too young spend more time with your head in the books then your head in the clouds and boys!

Now, if you are talking about having someone you like, who likes you back, and you talk at school, than no, that is ok.
Going out on dates is NOT OK.
The way to show a boy you like him, is to give him a look that shows that you are interested and then to just come out and say so.-If you cannot do that-then guess what- you are too young!

i know this isn't going to help, but i'm in an after school program with 3rd-5th graders, they all have boy/girlfriends, as long as you dont get too serious and dont go on one-on-one dates, your parents shoulld be fine with it and by the time 6th grade comes around you can tell your parents, if you want to...
see it's the information-communication age, everyone has cellphones, pagers, internet, and other things, and i know a 2st grader with a cell, so dating in 5th grade isn't bad, it's just not too serious, my mom told me i'm not alowed to date till i'm 16, but dont matter cuz i am and was 11 when i started in 6th grade...
your rite old days, ha ha ha!! good luck!!

There was a study shown that children who date when they are younger than 13 are most likely to end up smokers in their teenage years from trying to achieve and "adult" image. They also are most likely to have teenage pregnancies and have sex before they are ready for it. I'm 14 and in eigth grade, and I KNOW im not ready for it. Deal with it, you are a little girl who will end up as a slu t if you begin dating at this age.
