This type of sunburn is dangerous in that one blistering sunburn can cause serious skin disease years from now, so, (you already know this) you MUST be vigilant about wearing sunscreen from here on out.
The blisters are formed to protect the skin. Get some Aloe Vera gel *with* lidocaine in it - that is a pain killer. The aloe vera will help heal the skin and obviously, the pain relief will be welcome. You will feel immediate relief when the cool gel hits your skin - it does not need to be rubbed in. Try to let the air get to the blisters - not covering the skin when you can do this. Of course, stay out of the sun!
Taking aspirin is good, too and be sure to drink lots of water while the skin is healing.
Taking vitamin E by mouth and putting it on the skin will speed the healing. (it can be bought for topical application) Vitamin C is also a healing vitamin.

Yes, I would personally go see the doctor. He/She should be able to prescribe antibiotics and an ointment for your sun burn. However, in the mean time buy Aloe Vera. If you don't know someone who grows it go to a supermarket they might have it. But a fresh market or health food store for sure will have it. I would recommend buying the fresh plant, peel it, and then apply it all over your skin and on the blisters. If they do not have the fresh plant then they should sell aloe vera in liquid form and apply that in the same manner. Hope you feel better!
