We shop at Sam's. Some things we buy in bulk are paper products (napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, etc), canned goods, canned soda, cereals, snacks, toiletries and other items. We go perhaps three or four times a year and spend several hundred dollars each trip.
We buy our meat in bulk, also, though we tend to not get it from Sam's (a good friend of ours is manager of the meat market at our local grocery). We buy it when it is on sale, pack it for individual meals, and freeze.
We still shop weekly for items such as bread, milk, fresh fruits and vegetables and any incidentals. However, we spend a lot less at the grocery store than we would if we did not shop in bulk.
Oh, something else we buy in bulk from Sam's-freezer bags!
I do not plan meals. I just buy the things I know we will use. I do inventory what I already have before I go shopping, however.

When buying in bulk you do not buy everything in bulk. The staples and things that you use often is all you need to get in bulk. We buy chicken, beef and pork in bulk, then vacuum seal it to freeze in meal size portion. The FoodSaver sealer works well for our family. We also buy the bags that the sealer takes in bulk. We also buy dry goods in bulk such as lentils, rice, beans, etc. We store these in airtight containers in the pantry. We also buy canned foods in bulk. Although we buy a lot less of canned foods than fresh but in a pinch we use them. I plan meals and go the the grocery store about once every two weeks for perishables and additional ingredients. You will save quite a bit of money if you buy the staples in bulk then the extras just as they are needed. Also, another benefit would be that the weekly trips to the grocery are a lot quicker and lighter since you already have your mainstays. After about two months, we got into the groove and knew what to buy in bulk and not. Good luck.

Are you kidding? You save soo much money! For dog food I buy this huge 50 pound bag from Sams Club for maybe 12 dollars, that lasts us atleast two months. Imagine if I didnt buy that and kept going to the grocery store to buy those little ones over and over again. Same thing with food. A lot of things can be frozen. I buy plenty of cereal, meats, jucices, bottled water, frozen veggies, fruits, snacks, coffee, creamer, etc etc. Just write a list of what you know you make a lot or use alot. Now for going to the grocery store, you may have to every now and then for milk, and maybe little stuff or things that expire. I go to Sams about a month maybe a month and a half.

I have a family of 6 so I do quite often- probably not as often as I should bc I don't like seeing that huge bill- even though I know I'm coming out better that way. I think that's a great idea!! We have a place here called Angel's Food Ministries. I should do that next time I have left over bulk items! :)

Buy more of somethign than you actually need for that trip when it is on sale. Buy larger packages of things than you normally would and a good set of storage containers. It saves money but not anythign you will see right away. After a month or two of it you will definately see a difference.

Go to Sam's Club. What you don't use now, you can freeze, store, whatever. It's cheaper to buy in bulk. It saves you money down the road, especially on non perishables, meat (which you can freeze), and hygiene stuff (t.p. , kleenex, paper towels, razors, soap), ect...
