I got on the scale after thinking I was back down at my target weight - and I was *wrong*! i have about 15 pounds to lose, and the only exercise i can see myself making time to do is running (I have a free track by my house). I am on top of my eating habits...it's the exercise I have some trouble with.

How many miles should I start with? What will be the best way to pace myself - I want to lose 15 pounds in 6 weeks, but I don't want to overdo it.

That is a reasonable goal ... 2 -5 pounds per week.

Week 1. Start out walking/running for 20 min., everyday
Week 2. Increase to 20 min both morning and evening.
Week 3. Increase to jogging 20 min, twice a day, 4 times a week
Week 4. Increase to 30 min.
Week 5. Increase to 45 min, once a day, 4 times a week

By the end of week 6 you should have reached your goal... let us know...
walking a puppy or a dog is a good motivator :-)

Running and sensible diet is the most effective way to lose weight but remember loss will be influnced by so many variables .. important thing is dont be discourged but disciplined and positive

Some things before you start running .
Find fun places to run ... going round circles at the track .. is for me not fun
avoid concrete paths if possible jarring is hell on our joints
find a proper running store and get proper shoes it may seem expensive but medical bills are more

First goal should be 30 minutes a day ...
Try walking half a mile (1k) then easy jogging up to the same distance .... easy jogging is a pace that you would be able to have a comversation at
slowly increase the increase the distance of the easy jog
By 6 weeks you should be close to 30 mins easy jog and the pounds will be shedding away
Good Luck

Change your lifestyle and do this forever. Drink lots of water, walk, run, or swim an hour every day except 1 then do stretching and upper body toning. Eat fruits & vegetables.

No alcohol
no bread
no burgers
No candy
No chips
no corn
no fried foods
No pasta
No pizza
No potatoes
No sodas
No sugar

Trying to run too much too fast OR doing 2-a-days is NOT recommended for a beginner.

Good Luck
