The best vegan place I found was a place called Amarandak in Soho. It was owned by some Eskimo's from Alaska. Very good food. Not a lot of people know this, but Eskimo's make unbelievable vegan food. Even though they eat raw seal blubber, they're veg food is nuts. They used to do this one dish called frozen tomato salad. Doesn't sound good, but it was. Unfortunately Amarandak shut down. One of the owner's sons was operating an electro-stripping business from the back of the restaurant. The EPA got involved. It was a real mess.

Gobo- there is one in the West Village (6th Ave) and another in the Upper East Side. I go to the one in the West Village at least weekly; I am not even vegan but I crave their food constantly! Most of my office now goes there also...you will not be disappointed!
