Ok il start from the beginning.. when i switch my computer on it loads as normal.. then a blue screen comes up with the windows logo on it saying a hard drive needs to be checked or something like that.. if i leave it to check a list comes up saying its deleting loads of things.. this happens everytime i switch the comp on, so i never let it do a full check.. i switch the comp off and on and when i get to that stage again i just press a key to skip the scan..
well today i accidently let it start doing a scan.. and again it said it was deleting loads of things.. so i switch it on and off, skip the scan etc. and log on to the computer.. now im having problems.. if i try to open a web page it says something like the following application could not be found ('null') something along those lines...
my mozilla firefox is refusing to load, saying an existing fire fox process is still running, close and restart to begin a new session... so that wont open either..
has a virus done this?

Just please let the Hard Drive be scanned fully for once no matter how long it takes! Patience is the key! ....
Once the scan is over it will remove data in bad sectors and clean you hard disk and make it work!

Let Windows run the hard disk test.

When finished, reboot. Your PC should be fine.

No, it's probably not a virus, your PC was shut down improperly, maybe by a power failure.

Then, re-post if you still have problems, but be more specific.

Please describe your specific problem, with the program name and error messages (if applicable) and a description of your PC and operating system.

If your machine hasn't completely given up the ghost, reboot the darn thing to see if you can re-create the problem, taking careful notes on everything you do along the way. Write down any error messages you encounter and don't leave out any of the "technogobbledygook".

Even better, capture a screenshot of every error message you get. If you don't already have a favorite screen-capture program (like MWSnap), use the one inside Windows:

Press ALT + Print Screen to capture the current window, open Paint or WordPad, select Edit > Paste, then save the file in your documents folder with a descriptive title, such as "Error message when trying to access My Documents.jpg."

That way, you can send us links so we can see for it ourselves.

Then, we can try to help.

you probably have a virus and your antivirus which sometimes is stupid deleted all important files that were infected by the virus. What you have to do now is reboot your computer, meaning you have to somehow save all your documents if you dont want to loose them and then reinstall your Windows all over again. This will immediately delete the virus and your computer will be as good as new. Trust me I have rebooted my computer at least 5 times in the past 2 years. All the virus I have are deleted instantly and I have no problem at all.

You can go to Maxtor.com and download
PowMax4.23 to a floppy disc. Insert the floppy
disc into the pc and re-boot it. Follow the instructions and it will erase your entire hard drive.
Then you should be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc to bring back what you had before you lost it.
WARNING: This will erase everything on your hard drive!! But, it will reformat it and you will be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc.
Good Luck,
ED
