I read somewhere that for every gram of fiber you eat that it burns 7 extra calories. That is 1/2 cup of fiber one cereal has 14 grams of fiber with 60 calories. That would make eating that take up 98 calories. Is there scientific proof of this? A high fiber diet is allowing me to eat more and still lose weight but this seems too good to be true.

I think it can be true -there are too many theoretical concepts in nutrition -they kind of should be one way according to science but in reality there is not much of evidence to support those theories.
One gram of fiber is 5cal (its a carbohydrate) and daily requirement is 25-35g a day. Not everybodys digestive systems can tolerate even that much - you have to consume that much every day for your body to get used to fiber.
It just doesnt make any sense braking down all bodily functions in amount of calories needed to perform them. Just like this statement (e.g. body burns x amount of calories processing one gram of protein which also repairs your muscles)

Sounds convoluted. Fiber will fill you up so you can't eat much other things. Fill up on fiber you won't have room for anything with calories.

I would think it may prevent you eating 7 calories per gram as it fills you up. High fiber foods take longer to digest helping you to keep feeling full longer, and providing any available calories over a longer stretch of time.

The success comes from eating less high calorie food and being hungry less often.
