I figure "any day now", a dead Jewish man is going to come flying over the mount of olives and pronounce judgement on everyone.

Gazoo: Good post! Jesus made many claims that were supposed to happen in his era. Whoops, "God" made a boo boo.

Well let's see what the Bible says.

Mark 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

Mark 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Matthew 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Matthew 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

It says he was supposed to come back almost 2000 years ago......I think he is a little late.

I don't think we can predict when the end of the world is going to be. The Bible says it will come like a thief in the night when we least expect it. I also don't think the end of the world is going to end like in the Left Behind books. Revelation and much of the other apocalyptic literature in the Bible was written in code and never meant to be taken literally. Doing so is a gross misinterpretation of these passages.

I think your picture is unclear: Jesus, the savior of all mankind, who IS currently a living spirit in heaven will one day sit as merciful savior and loving "judge" over all of the actions in our lives. But God's loving judgment will bring healing not fear. We will find out He's more merciful than we ever dreamed. Which is why the bible says God demonstrated His own LOVE in that while we were still sinning Jesus died for us. Why fear a man who paid the price once for us so we wouldn't be lost? Why fear Him on the day we are going to meet Him? Most people including christians teach this so wrong. He came to SAVE. To SAVE. To SAVE.
