Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.2 Corinthians 5:17

The New Man

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of[d] the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:17-2

As usual you and I are on the exact same page with the Lord.
We must be born again to be saved. That means we have the heart and mind of Jesus and we have only His desires for us , and not the old desires the devil placed there. IF we have not lost that old SELF, we are still of the devil, whether we know it or not. We must walk in the Spirit every moment of every day, thinking on only pure and good things of the Lrod. Obedience leads to blessing and disobediencde leads to curse. B eing Christian means being like Jesus and following Him, in every way. IF we arent doing that, then we arent really in Jesus. We are only giving Him lipservice and wearing a phoney label that He knows well and when we stand in judgment, He will say I KNEW YOU NOT, that we had a false form of godliness but werent really God.
Absolutey the old self must be passed away as God give sus a whole new life in Him. we will have only His desire for the plan and purposes of our life. We live for Him alone, to serve Him and lead others to Him. and if we cant show ppl how God has changed our lives, what do we have to even offer anyone else. HEY LOOK AT ME, I AM A CHRISTIAN, AND I AM JUST LIKE YOU, BUT GOD LOVES ME ANYWAY AND IF YOU SERVE GOD YOU CAN STAY AS MIERABLE AS YOU ARE NOW. No, I dont think so. Thats not Gods plan, but the devi sure loves it when we try to pull that off. Doesnt work with God as He knows our minds and our heart, and our motives.

Great great question. Press on with Jesus.

I have known many christians.
Some have started like a rocket
Some grow like a slow snail
The thing is you WILL see is change and growth when someone is a "new creature in Christ". The world can drag a christian down. The anti-christian ways of the world can may make a christian weary at times.True christians need to stand with and for each other (especially as the end nears).
Jesus is the only way to the Father and salvation.Christians need to focus on Jesus and the truth of the scriptures.
Jesus saves and loves everyone (not His will any perish). He wants all to come to salvation.

The old character is gone. If someone accepts Christ with sincerity, then he is "born a new man". He now has a better understanding of the world, and with enough meditation in the scripture, has a better chance of resisting temptation.

I am a new creation
No longer in condemnation
Here in the grace of God I stand.
My heart is overflowing
My love just keeps on growing
Here in the grace of God I stand.

And I will praise you Lord
And I will praise you Lord
And I will sing, of all that You have done.

The old man is to be permanently dead never to arise again. That is why Paul said in Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ , he died to self. The old man is to die TOTALLY and new life living in you is to be Jesus Christ not yourself but Christ. So He is our righteousness and once we are born of him we are a new creation. We will receive trials but we are to overcome. We are to die daily to sin. God's children know NO failures and we are live righteously for God every moment of the day. So pray and ask for that old man to die but you are to cooperate. Jesus said in Matthew 16:24 if any man is to follow me he is to deny himself and take up his cross and follow him. So we are to die to self. Live in faith and not feelings. Live for Christ and not yourself. Hallelujah, Amen!

You sound confused. That means that if we want to enter heaven we must abandon the sinful parts of our lives. If you retain sinful existance you are in danger of graver sin and eventually damnation. Your desire to follow Christ and your acceptance of him is the start of a new life which has no guaruntee of salavation if you wander from the path Christ gave us to follow.

Yes However, even if "new" it can tarnish or be spoiled by a worm trying to creep back into our lives...

Peace be with you :)
