The reason why I ask is because my uncle was gay. He recently passed away and had a really close relationship with God. He actually was the organ player/repair man in a lot of churches. He was too afraid to admit his homosexuality because of judgment he knew would pass. He would NEVER touch someone who was not homosexual and was a very content, loving, and kind man. I would just hate to think that people would be mean or hateful towards him. I honestly believe he struggled with his homosexuality his whole life. I know it must have been hard having such a big faith in God yet having feelings you can’t just push away for the same sex.

I hope that he has somehow found peace at last. I never spoke to him about this but I certainly wish I would have. I can only imagine what his life was like and the hardships he’s faced.

Thank you for all who answered!!

The true and only Christian 'church' is entered by invitation only. No one 'joins' a real church. God's invitation and not mine or any other member. Read in Acts where 'God added' to the church 'daily' as many as were being saved.

This is not hypothetical, as many who become Christians were once homosexuals; as pointed out in one letter to the Corinthians where Paul notes -- 'and such were some of you;' meaning those held in bondage to the ungodly defilement's of this world.

Sinners of any brand, style or design will stay as far away from preaching of the true gospel as they can get; unless God in mercy and grace calls them and they have an ear to hear His word.

Any hypothetical group where sinners can attend unchanged week after week is not a church and its 'pastor' not called of God. If you are in such a group you are in a 'church' which has already been cast into outer darkness.

Former homosexuals?????
OMGOLLY
You are fooling yourself.
That would be like saying you have reformed yourself back into a homosexual. I don't think you understand homosexuality. It's not a choice. Trust me, my friends would rather have an easier life. Coming out to your family and friends, trying to be excepted by all. You have so much to learn. YET another reason i am not christian, you think you can cure the gay out of someone. pathetic.
Alcohol and Homosexuality? You are not bisexual and you never were. Just curious. Trying to say GOD is a cure for homosexuality is still pathetic. Trying to say there is a cure at all for homosexuality, is pathetic. It's not a disease!!! Wow i need to stop before i get reported, but that just yanks my chain.

They'd be just another human being; what is the big deal about their sexual orientation?
Most are decent, law abiding people just like everyone else.
(An excellent program on either the Discovery or Learning Channel last year went into depths explaining the reason for homosexuality. It was a very interesting and informative show.)

I do not go to a conventional church as per se but I would have no problem with a homosexual attending.
If he/she was active in his homosexuality I would recognise that the Bible's view would be it as sinning but the earthly place of worship is not a place for the sinless but for the sinners.
I would hope that the biblical counsel they would receive would touch their heart and make changes in their life that we all have to make with each of our own fleshly weaknesses.
A homosexual can become holy and respectful in God's eyes if they recognise that they should turn from the activities of their sexual orientation.
A homosexual who wanted to remain chaste in his or her desires would no longer be commiting any wilful active sin.
There are many homosexuals who do this and have a good friendship with God. The Bible is not a book of anti-political correct writings but the inspired word of God.
Some homosexuals rather want to engage in their desires and justify what they do contrary to the counsel of the Bible but it is their own personal responsibility and others just shun God completely but it not for me to choose if they can attend a christian meeting or not.
I can say that if you wanted to be a member of the congregation I belong to then you would have to stop being an active homosexual. If you didn't wish to then you wouldn't want to be a member anyway.

I would be happy that this person wants to have a closer relationship with Christ. That is what is most important and is most fulfilling. He offers abundant and full life. I would pray for him / her and avoid judging at all cost. I would show that person the love of God and try to be an example to others.

We've had them attend regularly before and seek membership. Our elders met with them and told them they were welcome to visit but unless they repent of their sin and deny that life, then they couldnt be members or get involved with ministries. We are Church of Christ and that is what Scripture teaches.

To people like emmapeel66: 1 Corinthians 5 and many other places clearly warn the church not to tolerate sexually immoral members.

Churches shouldn't have memberships. All believers in Christ are members of the body of Christ. If a person signs a membership card they are joining a denomination, a division of the body of Christ, which is an oxymoron.

A person who believes that homosexuality is not against God would not be able to sit in a church where the truth is preached. Their own conscience would not allow them to. They would have to repent and then they would be able to receive what is being preached, which is simultaneous some of the time.

"to join the church" denoted that a person would be accepting Christ into their lives and following His teachings. That is how a person "joins the church"

A homosexual would be welcome to come into the church and worship along side Christians, but to "join" the church, that person would have to live a Christian life and that would mean giving up the gay life

I am sure there are some in my church, but they do not reveal themselves. we are very family oriented and have alot of children around. so the repercusions would be tense. but for me , it would be difficult until I could tell where the person's heart is.. I see this lifestyle as a sin like any other sin, and I would want to evaluate their spirituality. I mean a person can say they are without acting out.. I fight the flesh too, so It would be interesting to see how it turned out. I would not reject them, and humiliate them. like I said to me it is sin, and alll have sinned and come short of the GLORY OF GOD.

First I'd welcome them, just like anyone else. The church as a whole would welcome them the same way. Then I'd wonder why anyone cares about the person's sexuality since that's such a small part of who a person is. I know all this since my church already welcomes everyone, no matter what, with open arms.
