I want the kids to start eating more healthily for the school holidays, can you recommend a veggie burger that hopefully the kids won't realise it's not the real thing? Thanks. UK supermarkets only please.

Boca burgers are pretty good. I have no idea if they're available in the UK, though.

If you would like to get them more interested try making your veggie burgers at home and have them help. There are some very good versions on line. I use a recipe that uses lentils (1lb) and red kidneys (1lb) as a base. All you need to do is cook them, Blend or grind to your desired texture and add seasonings that you like or let the kids use their imagination as far as seasonings. We use garlic, salt, thyme, and cayenne. Whatever recipe you use, I do suggest using a dash of "Liquid Smoke" in it to enhance the flavor with that "grilled" taste. The store bought brands usually are soy based so be careful if there is anyone with a soy tolerance or nut allergy problem.

To be honest, I have not had any store bought that I liked. Here is a link with a huge range of recipes to make yourself. I think the trick to getting kids to eat more healthy, is to get them involved in making their food, and having a good time doing it. You can talk about nutrition while your making it, and what vitamins are useful for their growth etc. Here is the link, I hope you will like it: http://pages.interlog.com/~john13/recipes/burgers.htm

A great way to get them eating healthily is fajitas, with chicken and loads of veg like lettuce and pepper they're excellent! Burgers are a good source of red meat, if you deprive them of meat, then they will get various defiencies related to meat deprivation. Also try smoothies, use vanilla or any other flavour ice-cream (that they like) in them if you want to persuade them to try them!

Good luck with getting them to eat healthily! :)
