Hi,
I was just wondering, have you ever given your GP or doctor a gift before to say thanks for their time or way they handled something etc or is this not done and it's just expected that they care for you as it's their profession in which they get paid?

As a doctor, people sometimes bring in things like box of chocolates or a note to say thanks for something. Of course its always welcome, but not at all expected as we are only doing what we are paid to do. Perhaps if the doc has gone out of their way to arrange something a thankyou note would be an idea - it is appreciated and gets the message across without having to spend money.
Interestingly, the patients who give the gifts are NEVER the ones who cause the trouble. They are usually the nice ones who bother you very rarely, and for whom you dont mind doing the extra bit. :)

I sent a plant to the doctors office because of the care he gave me, when I was in the hospital for 5 days in a small town about 250 miles from my home.
But it is not usually done on a regular bases for doctors here in the USA.

Do you know I have just this week tracked down a book my GP and I were talking about that he mentioned he wanted! How weird is that? I have to see my GP every other day, he comes to see me at home and is sooo good to me that I felt I had to get him something to remember me with (read my 360 blog for further info into why).

I have worked in a doctors office for years, and many patients bring the doctor presents. Sometimes its around the holidays, sometimes its just because. I don't think that there is anything wrong with it unless the gift is something totally inapropriate.

i know this sounds aweful but I suppose it depends how ill you've been and how much time you've really spent with your docter and if they've been a good GP, by all means get them some flowers or something! xx

My wife and I have written our Dr. of 6 years a letter of thanks before. It took us a while to find a compassionate, caring Doctor and we finally did. He has been so good to us, so we wrote him a thank you note. I think it would be fine if you wanted to give your Dr a token of your appreciation. I'm sure it would be well recieved and appreciated. Take care.

I've never had reason to as my doctor is rubbish!
However, it's always nice to be nice. If you feel they've been really good then show your appreciation.
