Why do you think it's dumb? Is that because you can't do everything you want to? If you think in terms of positive restrictions that actually help people to keep a civil orderly society, there might be a reason behind the dumbness. Don't discard it before you seriously look into your doubts. If you still feel the same than more power to you in finding something better.

from the way you ask the question, I think everyone can see, you don't want to pass the "same dumb religion". My parent are catholic, i am an atheist. It all depends whether you want the religion, If not, don't pass it on, if you do, you shouldn't be asking the question. It all depends on how you feel about it, and not what other people think.

I think you answered your own question already. If you feel the religion is "dumb" then it is obviously not for you. Why not just allow your children to choose their own spiritual path.

No religion is dumb. People (especially the powerful & influential ones) bend the teachings of great prophets to thier liking & best of their interests. So, we might find some of the teachings, like you said, dumb. But, i would say, find out the right teachings in the religion that you follow & pass that on. 'All roads leads to Rome', similarly all religions lead to ONE GOD. If there were different Gods, don't you think we all would have been created in different ways? But like any other, we have two eyes, one nose, one mouth, two ears, etc.

If the religion is truly dumb, put an end to it.
Is it really dumb, or do you just think its dumb?

I have read that only 5% of people are able to escape the thinking of their religion.

The obvious answer is no. Raise your children on the values you believe in. Don't just believe what your parents have told you is correct. Discover for yourself the beliefs you'd like to carry, man.

If you are an adult, I think that you may want to make that choice for yourself. Or at least give your children the option of making the choice for themselves.
