1: My adult Shih Tzu gets the hiccups every few months... why? What causes hiccups in dogs?

2: Every couple of months Alfie pukes why?

3: Alfie is way way way too big for a Shih Tzu... but we got him off a breeder, he cost a lot AND he has pedigree papers... But I know someone that has a Shih Tzu and shes says that her Pip is big for a Shih Tzu... but Alfie is.... MASSIVE!
he was about the right size when we bought him at a bit over 12 weeks... but then he grew and grew and grew!!!

Wait... I'll just measure him...

He is 27 inches long,
13 inches high &
4 inches wide
He is a black and white (Neutered) Pedigree Shih Tzu.

Dogs get hiccups for the same reason people do....it happens when they swallow too much air. Alfie pukes because something upsets his stomach. Unless you want to show Alfie..who cares about his size? Do you love him? Is he a good companion? Just enjoy him. I've had purebreds and mutts and have loved them all.

Size... Just because he has papers does not mean he is breed standard. We have numerous Shih-Tzus come to the doggie daycare where I work and several are "too big". Many small breeds have been bred down from larger dogs within the line and every once in a while you just get a throwback gene. So he's as big as a Lhasa Apso. So what? Since you've already neutered him (good for you!), just love him and don't worry about his size. I guarantee you he's not troubled by it.
Puking... dogs get upset stomachs from time to time. Could be a bit of human food that was slipped to him or something he dragged out of the trash or found on the floor or in the yard, even grass. As long as the vomiting does not continue don't worry about it. Clean it up, withhold food for a few hours, make sure he has plenty of clean water, and watch him for further vomiting or diarrhea and lethargy - those are signs he should see his vet.
Hiccups... dogs get them when they gulp air, either from eating or drinking too fast. With my guys I have found that it helps to sort of sit them upright and rub their back or belly. However the hiccups don't seem to bother the dogs as much as they do the owners!

1) I don't know but below are some websites that may help you cure the hiccups. Try to make notes of what's going on and what the dog eats each time it happens, review your information and see if you can find something in common at ech event.

2) Again, see what happens at each event to see if there's a common thread. I have a dog who throws up occasionally, and I finally realized it's at times when he eats a bit too much at one sitting.

3) Did you get copies of both the dog's parent's pedigree papers as well as his own? You SHOULD have. If you didn't, get them now. ALSO... if his pedigree is real, you should be able to locate your pedigree at the akc website. You can also call them on the phone to confirm that it's real and not a counterfeit.

You can also do a DNA test on dogs now and this will prove if the dog is a pedigree shitzu.
