America would be impoverished too if they were following christian laws just like the islamic countries because essentially the laws advised in the two religions are the same! America has flourished because it is a democracy!

It's strange how the people associate prosperity of the nation to christianity instead of human endeavour! They have actually started believing that the good democratic laws represent christianity and project the same to the world leaving out the slavery bits etc!

this is a very good question.. There are several bigtime preachers that promote this. What they fail to recognize is the background of the men who wrote the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution of the UNited States. The Roman Empire was the first democracy, and the template for their form of government was a starting point for the USA. But what made ours different was that it is a Democratic Republic. A blend of republic and democratic philosophies. Our form of government is now out of balance, and the Supreme court is not supposed to make law. But it has started this trend and depending on the majority will continue. But it is wrong for them to do this, and will be the downfall of our government. The christian law of the 10 commandments is the foundatio of all civil law. But here the laws pertaining to GOD are not as prevelant.they Used to be before the USA was a government, but the writers of our Constitution were well aware of religion running politics.. remember in history when Napoleon captured the pope and imprisoned him? that is when the USA was formed only with resistance from England. Now we are subject to ROME and the pope. So keep the separation of church and state alive, it is our only hope..

Likely because the most founders of this nation believed in a deity of some form or another - Franklin was a deist, Washington an episcopalian, Jefferson.. I'd say he was a deist too but his religious beliefs aren't totally clear but closer to disbelief than outright belief. However, these men were wiser than those of today and knew the dangers of a theocracy and the dangers of religious intolerance. They were less than a hundred years removed from events such as the Salem Witch Trials, which was as a masquerade for greed by the religious leaders of the day, so it was fresh in their memories.

The United States is a secular nation.

IMO we were are not a Christian nation. Yes the vast majority were fundamental Christians. Yes more then half had state-level established religions. Yes congress was opened with prayer to God. Yes the declaration, and to a tiny degree the Constitution mentions God.

However if they were a Christian Nation they would have had a religious test to hold political office, we would acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord - and would have a Christian denomination as the established religion.

According to strict political standards, America is a Federal Republic, but that doesn't change the fact 90% of Americans are Christian. Socially, it is not wrong or inaccurate to claim America is predominantly a Christian country.

The North American continent was founded by mostly displaced Christians.

They founded the first public schools to teach the masses in the world.

There were no schools for the peasants in Feudal Europe but by 1650 there were a lot in New York, MA, Main, Rhode ISland.

Then when the country became profitable Carpetbaggers from Europe came over and took over and their offspring founded a nation based on Capitalism

However DO remember the Declaration of Indepdences states there is a Creator and he endowed man with inalienable rights.

I don't think they were referring to mom, dad or King James.

You quote figures that come from those that declare non secular association to those religions. to think of the there are a number of greater suitable than approximately 10% of the those could be practising Christians against only writing down a faith on an valid form could be very deceptive. Then there is the incontrovertible fact that Christians understand they are sinners and are not suited yet do attempt to be, the place something only think of they are righteous without being Christian.

I do not think America is a "Christian country." Although I think many people keep God around like a big sugar daddy, or think it looks good to go to church. But that is not Christianity.

There are worse things then being materially impoverished.

America is full of the spiritually impoverished.

Most of our laws were based on the Bible.
Most state constitutions refer to the Bible.
Many other early documents refer to the Bible.

If you look in an old copy of Black's Law Dictionary you will see all the references to where in the Bible that law came from.
