I am a nurse at a Peds hospital and I LOVE what I do there, but the commute takes and hour. So I cut my hours back to part time there and started to work in an ER that is just minutes from my house. Only problem is, I hate the ER by my house and I just want to quit. I have given it a month and things aren't getting better. So, should I quit the ER by my house, and just pick up more hours at the part time gig, or should I hang in there a little longer?

since you spend about a third of your life in things related to work, i'd say happiness and satisfaction with your job are probably more important than the money it brings.
i gather it's not possible for you to move to a place closer to the peds hospital...
you can also try and make the time spent commuting into a productive period. by listening to books on tape, by meditating (if you're on public transport) and so on.
but really... go for the job that makes you happy

I'd say hang with it a little longer. It sounds like you're making more money right now, and even though the job is horrible, it's not killing you yet, otherwise you'd have already quit without asking.

But ultimately, you know you're going to quit. Actually, once you admit that to yourself, that will take some of the pressure off, and make it a little more bearable. It's always more relaxing when you're working at a job that you know you aren't going to stay with. So, hold out as long as you can, rake in the extra money for a little while longer, and when you can't take it any longer, move on. Who knows, in the extra month or two, something better might open up. Meanwhile, you'll have saved up more money, so all in all, it will be a good thing.

You can also use all that extra money to figure out if you can afford a house over by the Peds hospital. Who knows...

There are people who also commuted to jobs an hour or so away from their perpective homes and hated the job. You were lucky enough to have loved the job. Even if you had to drive that extra hour, that was time you could have needed to yourself. You should
have never chosen a job just because it's closer to home and hated it compared to a job you loved. Anyway just don't quit the ER just yet. Maybe there could be a transfer to another department. Just hang in there

I think it's important to love what you do. Being miserable might affect your performance. I just quit my job yesterday cause it sucked and I was... miserable. If being a nurse in a ped(iatric?) hospital and in an ER doesn't have much difference say... financially or career wise... it is my opinion that you're better off working with a lightness in your heart that can genuinely make you happy. And rub it off on people, too! :D

Since you promised to serve the sick ones in need whatever their case learn to love what you hate. Being a nurse full time will give you many good things in life. Take you to anyplace you want. Feed you right.Buy you a fast safe sports car. I suggest purchasing a home near the hospital you want to work to. What about the home your in sell it. And use the money to purchase Finance a new one near the hospital; you love your job.

Hang in there a little longer you might get to like it.
Could you get a lateral transfer in the hospital near your house? I think that would be the solution to the problem.

Peace and blessings!

Look out for ways to make your one hour commute either more pleasant or cheaper when you return to a pediatric hospital.
I am assuming that there is no public transit. See if you can share ride or trade your car with more fuel efficient kind if necessary.
Wish you all the best.

wait a little longer, if you can't adapt yourself with people down there, it's good pick up the other! but if the problem is you yourself, wich can not get used to somthing else, or u got used to the other place before, so you yourself should work on it, i mean work on your mentality about the new one, and get used to it somehow.if you have a good visionary mind, you can suit yourself in the new place! you should work on your mind! but if all the situation, like people you're working with, or even the place is not what it really must be,_must be doesn't mean not the ideal place you want_ so change your situation to another place ;)

If you hate where you are working, it is not possible to be completely happy, even if every other area of your life is exactly the way you want it. I would never want to stay somewhere I didn't love, even if the commute is long. Maybe you could consider moving closer to the job you love, if that is feasible! *sm*

When you work at a job you love, it is not work at all. It is pleasure. Quit the hated job, which is a chore to you, and start working at a job that you like.

When you like your job, you wake up in the morning eager to go to work and you do not notice the passing of the hours. When you hate your job, you force yourself to go out that door to go to work and you watch the clock all day.

Why stand out in the rain when the sun is shining just around the bend?
