Evening dress is not appropriate at a garden party. Men would normally wear a business suit or a blazer.
Wearing a Prince Charlie would be as inappropriate as wearing a dinner jacket.
Wear an Argyle with a dress sporran or a Tweed with a semi dress sporran as both are acceptable for daytime events. Choose the one you feel most comfortable in.

The Prince Charlie jacket is the most formal looking, right? We are talking royalty here, after all. One point: it is only correct to wear your own plaid. You probably know that, but not everyone else does. Perhaps one could take the Bean of Freeport as a generic plaid, however! LOL

No, it's true: L L Bean has officially registered a plaid of its own!

Well if it was me I would wear my own clan tartan if I had to.Yes I do have a clan tartan,so that would be my choice.
