My 14 month old girl had a fever of 38.4 last weekend and it seemed to settle down, she has had no noticeable fever this week but now the fever is back at 38.3. She has recently (3 weeks ago) had her 1 year shots. We think she might also be teething as she hasn't yet cut her first tooth. I don't think it sounds like an infection or ear ache as the fever was gone all week. Has anyone ever heard of a reoccuring fever and can a fever get that high for teeth?

yea they can get feverish with teeth. Just give her Calpol to get her temperature back down. It would be worth a call to your doctors too just to be sure.

A fever should not be that high for teething. Also she would be pretty uncomfortable if her teething were having that much of any effect on her to cause that high a fever. Teething fevers are usually low fevers and many doctos don't even think you can get a fever from teething. I don't know exactly where you live but, the one thing I thought of as a possible concern is Lyme disease. It's pretty rampent in the Northeast in the US. I don't think it even exists in most areas of the world or if it does it might be uncommon. However, it does cause fevers that can come and go and it is easily treated, if caught early. And it is nothing to worry about, if caught early. I don't want to scare you at all because you may not even have Lyme disease where you live but, if it does go untreated -- it can cause life long problems that are very difficult to treat. Just ask your doctor if Lyme disease is at all a concern where you live and ask if he can do a simple blood test for it if it does exist in your area.

You should always consult with your doctor with regard to a fever. That being said, I have the same thing going on with our 14 mos. old son. We took him to the dr. and he said it was due to teething. We are alternating between Infant Motrin and Infant Tylenol to keep the fever down.

However, the reason I say to contact your dr. is we had the same problem about 4 mos. ago. He just had a fever and no other symptoms. Turns out he had a really bad double ear infection. So you always want to be sure!

If your daughter ever gets a fever this high agin you should take her to the hospital immeadly she could have a seasure with a tempreature this high.
I would be aking an appointment for her to see a peaditrician and get this problem adressed that way you will know if there is some underlying reason why she keeps getting a fever.
Best of Luck

i went through same with my son due to jabs and teething hes now two just keep an eye on her and give her paracetamol you can give her ibuprofen aswell if she needs it ,if it continues i would take her to see your gp, because what she had last time could be diffrent this time they pick up so many viruses at this age, aswell as teething and jabs poor little one,so go with your instinct if you think she is getting worse visit out of hours gp or visit a&e
