There may be someone out here that knows that but the easiest way of finding out is: Go to your parts store and look up the number of the part associated with the 85. Then look up the number of the same part associated with the 88. If they are the same the part numbers should match!

I am thinking watch out! That was some time ago. The 1985 was the last year of the rear wheel drive Maxima and fittting the 85 rack and pinion into a 88 won't go. However if I have my year off by one and 85 has the engine sideways red valve covers the rack will interchange. A word of caution however when the rack sits for 15 years the boots rot off and the parts rust and you will be back in there doing it again. Just find a rebuilt rack. The trouble getting the metal lines past the transmission and rack out the left side will convince you. Just jack stands be safe
