Well I barely got a qaulifying score to enlist. Anyways what i did qaulify for was a mechanical job, "airplane mechanic" i believe my job couselor called it. So they asked when I wanted to leave and I said ASAP, I got my wish cause I was only in DEP for 2 months, i signed an "open general" contract and my recruiter specifically said "signing this contract basically means that when you arrive at basic they will give you a list of jobs you qaulify for, similar to what the job counselor did at meps and you will complete the process of putting the jobs you want from greatest to least all over again". I was like okay sure hell yeah i wanna go, signed it, done deal. Now everyone is saying that I made a mistake by doing so because they will put me a cop or a cook, yeah f*cking right. I wanna be a damn mechanic.

In 'open general' you will be assigned an AFSC based on what is open at the time of your graduation, what you qualify for, and what your choices are. They will attempt to give you your first choice as long as there is an opening for it at the time of your graduation. There is no 'letting' the military do anything; you belong to them as soon as you sign the enlistment contract and take the oath. If you refuse your job assignment, you'll be charged with a crime.

Okay, first you have to "qualify" for the MOS (Mission Occupation Specialty) or job through a couple of steps. One, pass with a certain score on the ASVAB Test. It would be a fair statement at this point to say that you should have done better in school. Anyway, you would then have to pass a medical / dental exam to see if you are physically qualified.
Now, when you speak to the Counselor at MEPS, this counselor is not only looking at your test scores and physical, they are also looking as to what needs the Army, Air Force, Marines, or Navy have at that moment. In other words, if you didn't do well enough on your test to sign a contract for a specific MOS, than you get stuck with whatever is needed at the time you graduate Basic Training. Which is what you are looking at since you enlisted as "open general". So, yes, you could be a cook, light wheeled mechanic, office clerk, and so on.
So, why again are you upset?

If you signed an open contract, you will have very little "say in what you get." If you wanted to be a mechanic, you should have specified that in the contract you signed. If you still have an opportunity to change the contract you should. In my experience, that's the only way to guarantee you're going to get a job you really are interested in.
Once you've sworn in and get to basic training, you may have a choice, but it'll be "leftovers"... and if you don't want any of them, it won't matter much. If you refuse to pick one, you'll be up on charges of insubordination. Don't set yourself up that way, if you can help it.
One consideration is, there are only so many seats available in A- and C-schools for technical jobs, like mechanics or technicians... so it's often better to wait until you know there's an available seat for you... If you get there and there's no available mechanic slots, you'll only be able to choose jobs for which there IS an opening coming up...

You seem to have all of the answers already for someone who hasn't graduated basic training yet. You are already an expert on the military. You know what we call people like you? Civilians.
Good luck at Basic, they will assign you an MOS according to the needs at the time. You may or may not get a choice. Lose the attitude as well, you aren't even in the military yet.

Sorry to burst your bubble and hopes but if you wanted a career as an aircraft mechanic you should have locked in a career instead of going in open general. The Air Force is going to place you where they need you. You might luck out and get mechanics but the chances are few and far between.

Actually you didn't mention AF, but I assumed so because of your selection for aircraft mechanic. Because you scored low and they are in desperate need for security forces and services people, or cooks as you call it, you will probably be selected for one of those jobs.

You signed the papers-
the Army is not in the ''wish'' business.
If cops and cooks are what's needed when you are out of basic...welcome to the world.
When I spoke to my recruiter, I told him that I knew electronics and was fluent in German...signed the papers...
Welcome to Saigon.
