Oh gosh, I'm devastated right now. :( :(

This evening four of my beautiful zebra finches escaped. One of them hung around for ages trying to get back into the aviary, I had a net and tried to catch him, I was so close.

I know I will probably never see them again, but I want to still try. I put a cage with food on top of the aviary, what else can I do?

Also, two of the finches that escaped were the parents of an unweaned fledgling! I want to try and handrear it myself or keep it alive somehow, but I don't have the equipment or the knowledge! :( Do zebra finches adopt fledglings, by any chance? :(

I also need hugs. :(

I just got a thought, have zebra finches been known to adopt fledglings, or only nestlings?
Because I currently have a pair in another aviary raising two slightly younger fledglings. Would they adopt it?

You have my support but the sad fact is you probably won't see them. As far as the fledgling goes, get to a bird expert quick. Finches are such small birds that I don't know if you can feed them. Leaving the cage with doors open and lots of birdseed to tempt. You might also try, if you sang back to your birds, whistling their song. I do it with wild birds all the time and we have wonderful conversations while birds gather around. At least your birds know you, that can help. Best of luck. XOXOXO
