My son stepped on a rusty nail and did not tell me until the next day I took him straight to the doctors who told me it was too late for a tetanus injection so gave him antibiotics. That was last Wednesday. He seems fine today (Saturday) should I be worried ?

No tetanus jabs last around 10 years but are given as precautions in those type of injuries. Antibiotics will also kill any bacteriia which found it's way into his blood stream. Make sure he finishes the course to increase the effectiveness of the antibiotics - he should be fine. Kids step on things and get cuts and bruises all the time and seldom have any ill effects.

He should be fine, but I am surprised that your doctor didn't give him a booster? Usually in these cases, the doctor with give another tetanus shot since it is relatively close to the time his next one is due. I would call your doctor about this one.

He's probably fine. You may want him to get another Tetnas shot, though. Some doctors say every 5 years, some say 10. It's probably not a bad idea, though.

I suggest you phone or visit your son's doctor again and ask her or him for a complete prognosis and what to expect re: the healing process. Also ask the doctor what signs and symptoms to look for that would indicate your son is unwell. it is a good idea to ask your doctor to notify you when it's time for essential shots / boosters, or keep track on your calendar.

nope i stepped on one at about 50, did nothing but peroxide and such, it hurt like the devil for a good long time, but in two years the lump from the scar went away and its ok now.

no you shouldnt really as the anti biotics will fight infection & your son is still covered by tetanus.

its worth keeping an eye on it for any changes though, but i am sure he will be fine..dont worry!
