Sixty years old is not really old; most people are still working at that age. I don't know of anyone who had to go to an "old age home" at the age of 60.

My mother was paralyzed in a car accident when I was 2 years old. After that she had years of medical issues. Her mother put her in a nursing home (she could not care for her by herself) when my mom was 43. She died there at 47 and I was 27.

My biggest regret is I did not find a way to have her live with me and care for her myself. She was too young to be in a nursing home and it was depressing.

60 is too young. I wish Americans respected their parents as some other countries do.

No, you sound angry and rightfully so - apparently no one is listening to you. You must begin to take an active role in where & how you want to live out the rest of your life. If you are in the US, call the elderly hotline and talk with a social worker who would work with you and your family in finding the best solution for all of you. You may be able to live by yourself in an elderly apartment complex, live with another relative (perhaps a sibling), or visit several different nursing facilities - which offer the best living arrangement for you - since you are so young you may look for a home with activities both in the facility and group trips to various activities.

Good luck!

i knew a few people that were young that took care of thier elderly parents/grandparents...and they definitely could have been doing other things like going to college, partying getting a career...think about it..what would you want? if it were your kids. how about doing what you want part time and taking care of them the rest of the time? they took care of you. now its your turn. you'd want someone to live you until your dying day. if they don't have much time left it would be best to spend it with them. if you must put them in a home because of care issues .make it a point to visit them every day. it sounds like a lot but if you love them you will do it. its what you would want. right? everyone wants to feel cared about until thier dying day right? don't you want someone to do the same for you?
