I believe it has to do with their posture...They are relaxed and do not "tense up" or grip the steering wheel hard.. When you are relaxed the safety systems in the car work better cause you are essentially part of the car...When you make avoiding type movements as a lot of people do you get injured more...I read that if you ever are in an accident and see the other car or whatever coming you should let go of the wheel and relax you will fare better..

Something to be said about being loose. Tensing up really causes internal organ failure when combined with crash. Drunks reaction time, or lack there of really increases survival. Now the bad part many drunks keep making the same mistake over and over.

That is just confirmation bias on remembering the stories where the driver lives while the victims die. The drivers frequently die and/or get injured too, and sometimes the victims walk away too.

I have been told it is because when you are drunk your body is limber or flexible! Com paired to when you have not been drinking your reaction time is much better and when you are aware of danger your bodies normal reaction is to tense up!
Kind of like when you fall your first reaction is to place your arm out to catch yourself! well if you were drunk you would not respond as fast in that matter you may just fall!

so that they live to feel the guilt? not sure, but it's always a shame when innocent lives are lost from a drunk driver.

Well guess cause they will have live with the guilt of killing someone that did not deserve to die. Thats why they are living. Its just show how dumb people are to drink and drive.

part of it is because they're so relaxed. They don't tense up, break bones, etc. They're all limp and just kinda go with it. Okay, I'm not doing a good job at explaining that, so I hope you get what I'm meaning.
