I'm Mormon and I don't see your point. Someone hear has already actually given a good answer to your question. We only practiced polygamy because after the trek to Utah many men died leaving women to care for the family alone so men would take in multiple wives. They ended that forever ago however. I do believe gay marriage should be allowed, not because I agree with it but because our government is supposed to separate church and state. Seeing as gay marriage doesn't hurt the government I don't see why it's a problem. It is immoral but that has nothing to do with it. They should be able to be untied by law but as far as marriages in churches go, I think that's pushing it too far.

How does gay marriage = polygamous marriages?
I can see where someone would argue that gay marriage takes a way from marriage between a man and a woman so that compromises the integrity of marriage. But it still keeps marriage between TWO people who love eachother.
A gay person marries ONE other gay person. They don't marry 5 other gay people.

Cause it's an oxymoron.
Marriage is the lifelong (supposed to be) union of a MAN and a WOMAN.
There is no such thing as a gay marriage.
By the way, the mormon polygamist marriages were a matter of survival. A woman couldn't live on her own so when her husband died she married another. That's why it has gone by the wayside in most mormon communities because a woman can live on her own much easier.

Polygamous marriages were allowed for the increased procreation averages in having more than one wife. Gay couples (men+men, women+women) can not procreate...so the point is moot.
Besides, homosexuality is an aberrant sexual preference that God considers an abomination. Homosexuality does not further mankind nor does it insure that mankind survives. Homosexuality destroys the present & future hopes of a bloodline and/or family.
