It depends on your theological perspective.
By most definitions, the "spirit" is a generic term for "life," or the quality that differentiates an animate being from an inanimate object. The "soul" is a generic term for all non-physical mental processes, including thought, emotion, consciousness, etc.

But by some definitions the "soul" also includes the physical body, and is sometimes identified with the spirit (i.e. the spirit is a function of the soul).

Some folks define the "spirit" as consciousness or directed perception, i.e. the nous in Greek, or "chi" in Taoist thought.

No.
Our ' soul' is us, living , breathing.
God created Adam...' a living soul'.
God did NOT 'give' Adam a soul.
Animals are ' souls'. Genesis 1; 20,21,24,25
(Leviticus 24:17-18) “‘And in case a man strikes any soul of mankind fatally, he should be put to death without fail. 18 And the fatal striker of the soul of a domestic animal should make compensation for it, soul for soul.
You have to be alive to be struck.
And the word ' soul' is transl;ated from the Hebrew word NEPHESH which means...that which breathes.
(Revelation 16:3) And the second one poured out his bowl into the sea. And it became blood as of a dead man, and every living soul died, [yes,] the things in the sea.
Souls can die.
You have to be alive to die.

God's 'spirit' is what was breathed into Adam, his motivating force. All men and animals have this. When they die, it returns to God.
(Ecclesiastes 3:19-20) For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity. 20 All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.

The soul is us it is what grows from birth, the desired fruit, possibly the Devine body. The Holy Spirit is of God and entwines itself into our souls and is a helper / counselor, etc... There are earthly spirits which posses the souls of people also, there are different degrees of possession. Possibly the fall of man was by Satan deceiving Adam and Eve into some how receiving his spirit the spirit of sin / lawlessness. The curse placed upon man . God has know given us the Holy Spirit by Jesus atonement on the gross. Greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world!

Your soul is where your will...emotions...intellect...mind...etc are housed. This is the part of you that needs to be renewed. The spirit is that part of you that was resureccted and born again when you accept Jesus Christ into your heart. Now the divine Spirit is the Holy Spirit...the third person of the Trinity.

Words tend to hide more than reveal, but basically, soul is our individualized aspect, the connective "between" us and God; spirit is the reality behind the words we use to try and understand or define, "God". They are indeed the same, as God is All That Is. This means that there is nothing to come in and disturb our perfect life with God. Only God exists. Nothing can change our true state of being.
