For my son's 1st birthday, we had family and friends over at home. We cooked, ate birthday cake and opened presents. At 1 yr old, babies can get overwhelmed easily, so keep it a small gathering if you choose! Good luck and have fun.

A first birthday party doesn't need to be a huge affair, it is mostly a party for adults, your child isn't even going to remember it. Just have the close friends and family come over, put out some simple food and get a little nothing cake that the baby can destroy and noone else has to eat! :)
Just make sure to take lots of pictures of all the close people who came to the party for the memories because that is really what this party is all about.

I'm sorry for saying this and I don't mean to offend you in any way, but I think that something too extravigant for a child's first birthday party is a bit of a waste of time.
The poor kid won't really grasp the concept of it being a party for her, and all the activity may even make her feel unsettled. I'm sure that later on in life, your daughter will expect copius gifts and attention on her birthdays, so if I was you I would have a quieter celebration right now so you can save yourself the hastle while you have the chance.

Save yourself time and money by having a small get together at home with a few family members. I spent close to $200 for my daughter's 1st birthday and she really didn't pay attention to what was going on. It was really a waste of money, at her age she really won't remember it.

The first Birthday party is mainly for you. Yes, it's awesome and a milestone and I'd keep it simple. Have it at your house, or better yet, see if a friend or family member will host it for you. I suggest you keep it small and simple because at 1 year old your child is not going to remember it. Make it how you want to remember it.
And Congratulations. :)

You could have it at your home, or the home of a relatives. I know your baby is to little to eat McDonald's but they do bday parties for like $50 and that includes the cake ice cream and 10 happy meals
