I am a Master Mason. All of the previous answers have a bit of truth and a bit of myth. Here is the truth:
1) You will NOT be asked to join. You must ask a Mason to join and then he will be happy to help you.
2) You must be male, of legal age, and believe in a Supreme Being. In some states that is 18 and in others it is 21. Every state and province of the US, Mexico, and Canada, and every country in the world has its own Grand Lodge. These Grand Lodges are independent of one another, so the age requirements will differ. But regular Masonic Grand Lodges have a few things in common in order to be considered regular (and acceptable for other Grand Lodges). The three requirements of male, of legal age, and believe in a Supreme Being are nonnegotiable, however. Lodges that accept atheists and women are not considered to be regular Freemasonry and are not accepted by other Grand Lodges.
3) Freemasons gather in Lodges. In the US, you can drive around town and find the building with the square and compass on the side. Or you can look them up in the phone book under "Fraternal Organizations".

Find a Mason and then ask about becoming one. They don't recruit.
Requirements:
1. You have to be male (most lodges anyway)
2. You have to believe in a higher being
3. You have to be an upstanding citizen
4. You have to be free-born
5. You can't have any major physical disabilities
6. You have to be mentally sound
They usually gather in a building called a Lodge Hall.

You need to be male, and of the proper age to join a lodge. In many areas, you must also profess a belief in a Supreme Being. They meet at the lodge hall, but you cannot take part in meetings until you've undergone initiation. The link below describes some of the membership requirements.

you have to know one, be a male, be invited to join, perform the tasks (my uncle won't tell me much until I join), and do all sorts of secret stuff. I'm sure you can find some stuff on Wikipedia. and they meet at the Masonic lodges, by the way.

If you really want to know, join the Mormon church, go through the temple ceremonies, and you'll pretty much have the whole process down.. since that's where they all came from. I think you have to be invited to become a Mason by another Mason.. but in the Mormon church, just show up and act interested.
