no it is not legal in NSW, try it and you will get booked, the driver will also get the same treatment

Im drunk and I don't know what NSW is but however, I do know that drinking in an automobile (whether operating or not) is illegal. I know this person that got a ticket for drinking in an inoperable truck that he was working on with the keys in the house. Good luck!

I don't know what the law down-under in NSW is, but up here in California you can drink in the back of a taxi, a rented limousine or an RV. Otherwise, no.

I think in most states it is illegal to have an open container in the car, whether you are driving or not.
