Ok. I've probably wouldn't have asked you that but it would've made my day more interesting.
In the Bible, the number 6 = imperfection, as the number 7 = perfection, completeness. (Gen 2:1-3; Ex 34:18; Le 23:34; Nu 28:11) More specifically in Revelation the number 666 is the mark of the "wild beast" and is a "man's number". (Rev 13:18)
The six is repeated 3 times to emphasize the imperfection of this creature. Because Jehovah God in the Bible often uses animals to represent human rulerships and kingdoms, this creature, full of imperfection represents goverment that reflects mankind's imperfections. (Daniel 7:2-7,17, 23; Rev 13:1, 2, 7)
The idea of this number coming up for your purchased items...I would'nt worry about it. In your case, I don't think there's any religious significance.

666 is now a cultural notion. Originally given in the Greek New Testament (book of Revelation) as a sign of imperfection. 7 is a perfect number in ancient Hebrew language/culture. 6 is an imperfect number. 666 is an imperfect number times three. Triple imperfection...in a language (koine Greek) without quotation marks or any other linguistic markers, the only way to emphasize something is through repetition. Six hundred sixty-six=really bad. Sadly, many understand parts of Revelation (666 for example) at face value but understand other parts as symbology or metaphor (grasshoppers as tall as skyscrapers for example). The whole thing is symbolic...none of it John intended to be taken at face value.

I agree - that's just superstition. Even non-religious people are scared of it - that just shows how watered-down it's gotten.
It's a prophecy of the number that will be associated with the Antichrist's regime... but until he shows up and starts conquering the world, it's a waste of time and energy to avoid that number.
I work retail... and I always get a chuckle out of people's reactions when their total is $6.66.

Because it is the number of the antichrist who will be on the world scene possibly soon, we christians do not want anything to do with a number that is associated with satan at all, so we choose to avoid it. No, it cannot effect us or harm us now, but it will damn people for eternity when the time comes when those people left behind takes the #. But for now, it's an association thing that represents the evil one. Nothing to freak out about, just nothing we want to do with.

It's merely religious paranoia due to the fact that in the book of Revelation "God" states that 666 is the "Mark of the Beast". Religious paranoia about religious nonsense. Some of the ancient texts even say that it isn't 666!
Here is an article from Wikipedia on the matter: "
The Number of the Beast is a concept from the Book of Revelation of the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The Number is 666 in modern texts, although 616 and 665 appear instead in at least one ancient source."

I don't really care about the number 666. I'd like to have that many $100 bills....would you not take that many if it was 666 of them??? I agree; it is just a dang number, and I am a Christian. So what if it is the mark of the beast...Jesus hasn't come back yet, and no one has been forced to take the mark--why be freaked out about it?

I'm sure you are aware the number 666 is considered the "sign of the beast" (the devil).
I think most people just say it as a joke and aren't really that superstitious. It's like hotels that don't have a 13th floor (as if the people on the "14th floor" don't know what floor they are really on).

"Here is wisdom. Let him that has understanding count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred and sixty six" (Rev 13:18)
A lot of misunderstanding about what that means. It's eventually turned into superstition - much like the number 13 in our culture or 4 in the Chinese Culture.

I think it's ridiculous superstition. In the bible it says that people of faith should fear nothing, because if they truly believe, they have God on their side, and they know that Satan is a defeated foe. He has no power unless we believe he does.
By the way, you seem to be big on generalizations, I am a Christian and I have never been afraid of a number.
