It's a Full Moon. It's a Blue Moon. The Goddess is at her peak in magick. and I can feel the energy rising in me! Tonight is the night! But I don't have a Pentagram inscribed Athame. Could I use a regular knife(maybe a butter knife) that has been cleansed in salt water? I want to do this tonight! Not a day or night longer!

In the absence of your Athame...use you finger!

It's a wonderful night to self Dedicate yourself, so go for it.
Self Initiation is pop culture speak for Self Dedication.
Given what initiation means, its not something you can do your self.
No matter what someone who writes a New Age book on Paganism says, there are just some things one cannot do by ones self, any serious study of ancient religions will verify this.
By the by, all you need for Self Dedication is you and the will do Dedicate your self.

The tools aren't as important as what you are feeling right now. By all means do your self-initiation tonight--no need to wait. Remember to ground that energy afterwards or you could have one heck of a "hangover" tomorrow. Congratulations and Blessed Be.

The ONLY tool that you TRULY need is YOURSELF. When I self Dedicated all I had was ME, and the trees and the grass and the animals around me. And that is ALL that YOU need to dedicate yourself to Goddess and God.

Bright blessings to you on your self-dedication (you really cannot initiate yourself, as initiation is a "bringing in" by someone else).
Follow your inner voice, leave yourself open to inspiration, and don't worry about the tools. The only tools you *actually* need you already have - your body and your will.

I think a butter knife may be a little too dull. You realize you are going to have to draw some of your own blood with the blade, don't you? There's always a razor blade, if necessary. Frankly, I would wait until I had all the proper magical tools, if I were you.
