While the story of Adam and Eve is true, it's not the whole story.
I contend that Adam and Eve were not the first humans on Earth as believed by...well virtually ever Christian and Jew on the planet. Humans were created on the sixth day, God rested on the seventh and created Adam and Eve later.
The reason that the other humans are only vaguely referred to is because the Old Testament, especially Genesis was written for the purpose of establishing God as the creator and supreme being and to provide a genealogy, starting with Adam and Eve, leading up to the birth of Christ. The other humans are simply not important to the story. They are, however, mentioned vaguely as I am about to prove.

I didn't want to make this a long answer so I chose to just copy and paste the first two paragraphs of an article I published a couple years ago. Please read that for your answer.
Based on your answers to other questions I don't expect you to give my answer much creedence but I believe if you read the article, you'll find it informative and may give you food for thought.
Hope this clears things up.

Actually the Adam and Eve story is taken from the Mystical Book of Sex! Studied by the Kabbalists. The precept is to explain the acceptable and unacceptable practices of sexual intercourse. The serpent is Lilith who is accompanied by her partner Samael. Samael is represented as a camel and riding on Lilith's back hence the perversion or doggy styled sex. Very interesting read if you can find it. It is a very large text considering that the amazing magnitude of the sexual energy has been a mystery since time began.

Interesting theory, but no, lol There were other people created after Adam and Eve. They were just the first ones. If you read your handy-dandy Bible, the footnotes help explain that after Cain killed Able, he had to worry about other people wanting to kill him. Some suggest that it showed the future, rapid rate of multiplication from Adam and Eve, but more likely, other people were created and incest was not a problem. = )

It wasn't until the Law of Moses (Leviticus 18-20) that God forbid the marriage of close relations. Yes, this does mean that Cain married his sister. Ewww... you say. But you must remember that Adam and Eve carried all of the genetic information that exists for all of the incredible diversity in the appearance and makeup of mankind and were the perfect creations of God. Their geneitcs did not suffer as ours suffers today because of sin and a fallen world. It took many generations, until the time of Moses, for the genetic makeup of mankind to get to the point where unhealthy traits could be passed through close inter-marriage. I would suggest you visit Answersingenesis.org for more information about this.

"Incest" wasn't an issue back then. Incest nowadays creates genetic overlap and all kinds of deformations and crap. That's why it's prohibited. When the gene pool was pure, there was no risk.

IF taken in the literal sense than yes. As far as I know when I first heard the story it was literal its has since been modified into a parable only, it kinda does not suit the times we live in now.

yes we are related, but very very far in terms of blood relation
in the time of adam and even, there is no law from god, or god did notprobhibit those who are closely related to get married
in the new testament, it is said that one's nakedness should not be exposed to another who is closely related
therefore there is a new law or commandment that was given in our time
now it is not allowed for brother and sister to get married, it was different at the time of adam and eve

We ARE *all* related, plus we’re all related to apes, wasps, monkeys, elephants, broccoli, amoebas, etc., right back to the Origin of Life some 3,900,000,000 years ago, maybe a bit longer. ... Below are the *only* real Adam and Eve:
- Y-Chromosome “Adam” (patrilineal MRCA) – 59,000 ya
- Mitochondrial “Eve” (matrilineal MRCA) – 143,000 ya

How does anyone figure 40,000,000,000 people in 6000 years starting with 2? The math does not work.
